My insurance (Ducati Insurance) would cover the 1198 without a tracker (late 2011 bike, registered June 2012) but insisted on it for the Panigale (Sept 2016). I just find myself regarding the subscription as an extra cost of the insurance, the dealer were quite helpful regarding the cost of installation.
My only problem with it is the constant (small) drain on the battery as I'm not a big fan of leaving it on the Optimiser all the time.

You can also set the threshold for notification if the battery drops below a certain voltage, think default is 11.6, handy if you ever accidentally leave parking light on

I got a bike with one of these already fitted; put it on my insurance and now I'm stuck I suppose, I'm just about to give them my first full year's worth.

I only had one text from them about the bike being moved (it was me moving it) and was a bit concerned as I've moved it often of course, so what I've read in this thread about the detection makes sense.

By the way, the 'speed recording' can be turned off but since the location is recorded at 60 second intervals, it's not really.

Is it not a snapshot of what the bike is doing at that moment? My recent looks at the website suggest so...

Yes you get some status info including speed on the map if you want to review a journey, and it displays your speed unless you disable it.

Not sure if I understood your question though Confused

I could be anecdotally incorrect but I understand these things are easily defeated by shielding. ie. the bike thieves use a big ole blanket lined with foil/lead etc to throw over it and then deal with the tracker at leisure in a shipping container or whatever.

I think they use a combination of GPS, GPRS(sim card that's in the device) and RF to track the bike. So if its in a shipping container and they lose the GPS signal they then switch to GPRS and RF to narrow down the location.

I may be wrong.
