I think I know the answer but I'll ask in the hope that I'm missing something here.

Piaggio Beverly 350, started cutting out randomly and holding back. Read up and the spark plug cap thing seemed to be the common issue so I got a new one, along with a new spark plug.

Took the old one off, came off fine and went to put the new one in. Got about 80% of the way in and it stopped dead. Tried to 'nip it up' a touch and started it, runs but bogs down straightaway. Took it off and tried wacking the old one back in and the same issue.

The threads on both plugs look fine, I cant see the thread in the head all that well tbh but I'm assuming the plug should screw in easily until the washer then a small turn to squash the washer?

Stupid questions first:

Was it the new plug the correct plug i.e. was it the same or a perfect equivalent?
If the threaded section on the new one was a tad longer than the one you removed then the new plug would be squeezing through any carbon deposit at the bottom of the hole.

Did you blow all the shite out of the hole before you loosened the old plug?
Shite could have fallen into the hole and jammed in the thread.

Apart from that what did you think is the cause?

Yes. A small turn. 1/4 to 1/2 at most.

If the old one came out easily enough and the thread doesn't look damaged then I'd concur that you've got some crud down there. WD-40 or solvent-of-choice and a thin (e.g. bottle) brush to try and clean it out.

Patience, don't just try and blast the plug or a tap down it. It should go in easily enough once it's all clean.

Panic over, turns out a scooter with half its panels removed sounds like a bag of spanners Laughing Put it back together and ran it up the road and it goes as it should! Phew. I've tightened the plug till it stops with my hand then about 1/4 turn at most, seems good.

I dont know why I've never noticed it sounding a bit boggy on the centre stand when revved but then I dont stand there opening it up for no reason.

Fingers crossed it gets me to work tomorrow without giving me issues, thanks to both of you for the replies though Thumbs Up

Old Thread Alert!
