Wifie wants one fitted to her cabriolet.

I have a GoPro but obviously that doesn't 'loop' or stop on accident so not really much use.

Do they have to be certain standard, kite marked or something to be admissible in case of an accident or will something like this for £15 be fine. (I'm paying so cheap is good Rolling Eyes )

Cheapest with Dashcams (in my experience) means shite.

Take out the cheapest ones
Take out the most expensive ones

You can basically take your pick from whats left in that bracket and you will be happy.

something over £30 and less than £100 will be perfect for standard looping recording and G-shock detection to store the video away automatically in an accident.

I have one of these in the wifes car. No screen to distract her, it just sits there recording out of sight.

I got given a cheap one like this, I gave up with it because we were powering it via the 12v and every time the power turned off all the settings on the camera were not retained and it set itself back to default.

You might have better luck if you wire it in, or if the default settings suit your needs.

Using my drift hd atm but it doesn't start recording automatically when you turn the ignition on. Techmoan's a good place for reviews, I believe he still recommends the Mobius.

I started with a Mobius but I've moved to a BlackVue 650S with an anti-tamper case.

I found the Mobius to be generally very good but couldn't take the viciously powerful windscreen heater being on and would often overheated in winter. What really triggered my move to the BlackVue was it's surprisingly hard to make such a small camera discrete from the outside as well as being an easy grab & run target when the top was down.

I have one I got from Maplins.

Not too bad image quality and has pseudo night vision.

Uses GPS for speed and position.

Sub £100.

I have a Mio MiVue 618, good quality recording and it also keeps a speed camera database which is quite useful.

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/camcorders/dash-cams/mio-mivue-618-dash-cam-black-10145226-pdt.html

I bought it before Christmas at £69, the price goes up and down so make sure you don't pay £99 for it.

I also had many cheap dash cams, many because they fail. This certainly is a case of buy cheap....buy again. It's false economy. I just picked up a nextbase dash cam from costco, and although early days it is, it already beats the pants off any cheap camera I've had in the past.
