So the story goes I've got a 5000 mile baltic sea trip planned for September and the vtr1000 isnt really the bike for the job
So looking around I found this us import damaged tiger that I did a px for

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/DSC_0998%20Large_zpsx08njjjx.jpg

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/DSC_0997%20Large_zpshnyffixu.jpg

As you can see its missing all the fairings except for the seat one. Original plan was to get fairings for it and get it back to standard, but that's turned out to be cost prohibitive

So naked tiger it is,
Plus side is, the tank is a fairly nice shape, and I think it'll look pretty good unfaired
Down side is, no screen, and the wiring is a mess and been bodged,

Plan is single round headlight, led indicators,
Tidy up and take it to visa for a check over and tax.
Then ride into the sunset.

More to follow... Obviously 😉

right,
well i made up some new plugs for the ignition, and tidied up the wiring near the front,

and made a bracket for the headlight

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/DSC_1009%20Large_zpsltcpf2zb.jpg

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/DSC_1010%20Large_zpstzzxq9q9.jpg
but it just didnt look right, the headlight is too small (7" rather than the standard 8" that bandits and cb's have)

the light was too high, and the bracket looked shit.
id already bent the brackets to suit the 7" light but thought id just cut them up and see if i could get a better angle and bring the light in closer to the frame

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/DSC_1011%20Large_zpsbiufapw5.jpg

which i think looks much better,

and a quick projection with a bigger light
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/tiger%201050/headlightedit%20Large_zpsncxjvsb5.jpg

i think with a wee black screen aka bandit style it'll all tie in nicely

...

if it makes you feel any better, im also a foreigner with no respect for the british way of life Wink

i really did want to put it back to standard, but i dont have the better part of 2k to it, and you can't get the parts any way. so its either naked, or parted out.

im not the savage who crashed it, just the savage who wants it back on the road.

The most disgusting speed tripple :p

Quick google looks like the frames are similar between the 1050 tiger/speed tripple, wondering how much is cross compatible (?) might be a avenue to peruse.

I did think that as well, but apparently they are different.
The tanks are certainly a different shape at the back, and where the subframe joins is different.

Would be nice if they were just speed triples with longer suspension

It's the flat tank at the front with the kicked up back seat at the rear that makes it look a bit odd.

It's the hammerhead shark of the bike world.

Still, it's alive and it's not a bobber so that's two points in its favour.

I just don't know what I can do about the tank,
I have the spare yellow one I can cut up,
And I might also buy a speed triple tank. Which was my original plan, but guys on the triumph forum said it won't fit.

But what the fuck do they know 😂

Hmmnz, it's your bike, your saving it from death or tin cans, and your building it for a useful specific purpose. I'd say fuck to what it looks like, and make it comfortable, useful and ride well.

Don't spend all your hard earned trying to de ugly a bike with extra expense and parts it doesn't need, as it's not a bike you got as must own before you die scenario, or something your building for shows or kicks and thrills.

I'd make it work for you and do what you want with it, without getting all precious over aesthetics or style.

Baja headlight? Double one with the metal guard round the outside, for extra Mad Max styling get mesh over the lights.

Could work, or maybe a big rectangular job, say from a Kwaka GT.

I actually don't mind the tank, I think its' different rather than downright ugly - it's always going to look like its been crashed, but it might help if you repurposed those redundant brackets, perhaps indicators on the top pair, mini spots on the bottom.
