It's your choice, however I'm in the 'get one that people can see from a distance' camp.
IMO too many accidents are because cagers don't see a bike, so anything that helps is a benefit.
Even if it increases your visibility by only 1%, it's 1% less chance of you having an incident.

There's a few 'group ride' pictures on every club website where pretty much everyone is wearing dark lids, but the light coloured lid wearers are always more noticeable.
Any bright colour helps (not just Hi-Vis) but IMO isn't necessary if you prefer to wear a Hi-Vis tabard (which I don't, but would do if I was a commuter).

Obviously don't wear a 'Polite' tabard unless you want people to know you're a twat...

Haha, yes i am also reading the "Polite" vest thread with interest, and no, i would never wear one of those either

I will say that this week is the first time i have actually used my bike for commuting (thanks to Bennets for providing me free commuting cover during "Ride To Work Week") and i have worn a hi-vis every time

On my weekend/evening rides around the country side, i will admit i tend to leave the hi-vis behind because it's not quite so cool Cool (and yes, i am still on Loser Plates, so aware i will never be that cool)

You know, funnily enough that's what I thought as I purchased my Guy Martin rep LaughingLaughing

Honestly I kinda like the power ranger look to an extent, in that I kinda like a bit of colour on the kit. But as I've already discovered, unless you're a 100% die hard one-manufacturer kind of guy, it limits you're options without looking a pleb.
