Hi Folks,

After getting my CPI running i ran into constant carb blockages, so i decided to seal the tank with POR 15.

I followed the steps, but due to distractions, wasnt able to keep rotating the tank after draining the surplus sealer back into the can.

IF there are puddles on the bottom of the tank how much longer should i wait before filling with fuel?

I was once told if you can still smell the paint it isn't dry/cured. can take several days/week or more..

From the experience in the workshop I try real hard not to use fuel containing Ethanol in a tank that has been sealed despite claims it ethanol proof I not trust any sealant to be use Super type fuel from a good supplier not a supermarket !

Seen several sealed tanks block carbs !

See what's left in the can and have a poke at it. It generally goes off pretty quickly once opened. I think it's more of a resin that cures in the presence of atmospheric moisture than a paint that hardens.

The instructions stated if you had excess left in the can to mix a little water in and leave it to set, which it did, quickly.

In fairness, if you can get POR15 off a surface with anything short of a small thermonuclear explosion, I'd be impressed.

Im truly hoping this is so, because my shed has developed a leak, which has been running down the outside of the tank all day.

I dont have nukes, but i do have thermite Smile

Day 6 (144 Hrs), and the tank still smells.
I cannot say im surprised because of the rain over the last 5 days so ive brought it in and sat it on the slow cooker in an attempt to speed it up.

When this debacle is over I will not be using cheap supermarket petrol, with the MPG the bike gives there is no reason to not use premium fuel.

i have only used tank sealer once, Petseal Ultra.

Followed instructions to the letter, inc waiting times etc etc.

first use of the tank, fuel dissolved the sealer leaving my carbs, plugs an fuel tap full of epoxy crap

Acetone removed it all, but i needed to replace the tank afterwards

They'll be no reason to run anything other than probably the dirtiest 91 RON shit you find in India... 95 standard fuel will be fine.

A bit of warmth helps with it drying, but the biggest help is from airflow. This is why airing cupboards are good - it's warm, and the air tends to move around a bit with convection.

Otherwise, let it just sit outside, with the fuel tap removed (which I assume you did already for the sealing) and the cap off. A bit of sun, a bit of wind, it'll dry in no time.

When you do have it dry and full of fuel, check very carefully for leaks. Sealers can work for a tank with internal rust (although I prefer to remove the rust instead of sealing it in) but they aren't a great fix for tanks so rusty they leak. The fix there is a new tank.
