hey guys, I know a lot of you get this question on a daily basis but I would really appreciate the advice for my specific situation.

So I actually already decided on getting a 2nd hand Yamaha R3 for my first bike but because of the area I live in, I am very limited to what bikes there are. There are not many 2nd hand bikes online and because I'm a beginner i don't think a new bike is a good option for me. I already have a license but do not know how to ride a motorcycle (have lots of experience riding bicycles and 125cc scooters), there are also no beginner riding courses in my area so i'll have to teach myself.

Now for the choices there are a few 2014 ninja 300's and cbr 300's which I'm considering (although i heard the cbr 300 is very lacking), there are also plenty of 600+ cc bikes (R6, ZX6R, cbr 600). I will be riding this bike for minimum a year as a commuter to and from work (less than 10 mins) so comfort isn't my main concern, I also will be reselling the bike afterwards. I would highly prefer sport bikes, and i would like to upgrade in the future. I am 24, and will be financing the bike.

My priorities are learning while not sacrificing speed or looks if possible.

thanks and sorry for the load of information~

Wait, what?

You have a licence but dont know how to ride?

Are you sure you have a full A or A1 motorcycle licence?

You have done mod1 and mod2 tests?

Are you a sock?

basically where I'm from our scooter and motorcycle license is the same. its hard to explain but I passed the scooter license test and received a Code A license which is for both.

I would love to go do a beginner riding course but the closest one is like a 5+ hour drive away. I'm already trying to find a friend or someone experienced to teach me.

Why do you think OP is a sock?

Just because anyone has passed a test doesn't mean that they can ride or drive for shit, and surely you must know that?

A few 1000miles of experience and in the right frame of mind to learn and improve will change everything.

Remember the maybe 1/3 of bcf that uses bikes as daily A-B vehicles and clocks up 100's of miles week in week out is not typical of the general pop or of all of BCF even.

It could take some riders 5years to clock up 5000miles, where as it's 2-3months riding for others.

Yes, but the OP did say his experience was only on 125 scooters and hadn't mentioned anything about China at that point.
So even though it sounds odd but vaguely possible now, with the little info then it did sound very iffy.

I'm currently living in South Africa. I went to China for a "family" sort of gathering and thought I might as well do the license test there (there is no learners/rider course you have to take), I also have my Car license (which is also manual) so I do have a basic understanding of clutch and shifting.

Sorry if my information isn't enough, If there are any questions i'm willing to answer them.

someone else has recommended me go practice in a parking lot until it becomes muscle memory and basically keep on practicing.

Other than a mandatory minimum number of hours spent on practical lessons, a health check, a practical test and a written exam (in Chinese). Also relevant residency (tourists cannot do it).

I had a health check and did a written and practical test, written test was in English. I do have residency there as my family are from there.

If you were truly Sad Afrikaan you'd know that only beatings, stabbings and murderings go on in parking lots - I call BS.

do you really expect beatings and killings happening every day in parking lots here? I really don't understand, I'm literally just trying to get advice, yes I have a weird story but I'm not lying. I would really love to get into riding a motorcycle but I would like to be prepared and getting advice from people more experienced is what I'm trying to do.

I may as well just discard my overseas license and get a learners here and start fresh

Of course not; not every day. I should imagine there's a couple of days over the course of the month where there's just general robbery and the odd sexual assault.

Not really sure what the original question is. You want a bike but can't ride one but think you want one if you can teach yourself to ride it and have a few bikes in mind.

OK back to basics, are you suggesting you learn on a bike you've got on finance? Don't do that.

How about, you've got a metric feck tonne of land in SA which suit a dirt bike well and gives you wide open space to practice on. Buy a very cheap expendable dirt bike, learn well the art of riding a bike. Then once you're confident sell or scrap dirt bike, go buy bike you want after test riding some - if you can of course, with your cereal box licence.

All new accounts are either spammers or they're Tritey.

Since the OP hasn't tried to sell us anything, they must be Tritey.

Or Dagmar. Wub
