my 16 plate 600RR seems to be getting quite hot in the sun at a standstill (traffic), around 106/7 degrees. is this normal/acceptable?

any info appreciated

Can you hear the cooling fan come on?
It is under warranty as well.

The fan should come on and then the temperature should start declining. It's a couple of degrees higher than I'd like to see peak, but I wouldn't worry about it (much) if it starts coming down to ~100 again after the fan comes on.

If it continues to climb as you make slow progress through heavy traffic, I'd talk to your dealer.

If it were my bike, I'd check the levels in the coolant overflow reservoir.

thanks for the replies -

the fan does come on, but only at 106 ish, and then yes the temp starts to decline - reason I asked was I thought surely the fan should come on earlier than this

ill check the coolant levels tonight just in case

It's 'cos it's hot outside and petrol is exploding in the engine with fire and stuff.

And I've seen 120 on my VFR, followed not long after by a flashing TEMP warning Smile - and a little later a dead stator!

https://www.600rr.net/vb/62-troubleshooting/196767-standard-cooling-system-temps.html suggests that fan should come on at 104, and stay on until it goes down to 93. Unless that info isn't applicable to 2016 model, 106 is a couple of degrees high, but like I said I wouldn't worry if the temp comes back down again after the fan comes on.

Cheers for that link - definitely shed some light. Long as I'm not hitting 115 seems the bike is operating ok, and the levels are fine.

That readout probably isn't accurate to much more than 4 or 5 degrees.

On an engine on one ship I was on all the gauges were needle analogue. We had a new monitoring system fitted with digital readouts which read to 0.1 of a degree and my engineers would start panicking if a reading changed a couple of points. You wouldn't have even noticed it move with the analogue system.

If the fan comes on and the temp drops, all is good. Thumbs Up
