Think I kind of get where Hellkat was going with her suggestions, but that wouldn't work for me, though I do appreciate being out alone in the countryside on a quiet day off looking at nothing in particular etc.

Think the feeling down for no reason thing is overplayed for most people, youd have to have a predisposition towards depression or be a diagnosed case sufferer like say a manic depressive, or another mental/behavioural known condition IMO. You do get fairly even keel people where nothing really excites them, but equally nothing really makes them down IMO too.

OP has qualified his feelings quite clearly in second post I'd say and I can really relate to it. If you've got money coming in but no time to do things or all your would be free time is automatically allocated by you or others to helping others or caring for them, you get really fucking low after so long.

The bit about buying the sports car so that OP's kids could come out with him on days off illustrates this well. I'd say OP is kindly putting the needs of everyone else before himself every hour/day.

I've got friends that are married with kids, and family life is bloody busy and hectic. Even so each adult even with double the child care thing on their day off, gets at least half a day a week free to do something away from the whole family. That might be anything from keep fit classes or swimming to a day of shopping or an afternoon of shed time or mountain biking etc.

One of my best mates has had to give up bikes for pushchairs etc, but no bike is not depressing him. He says to me normally when he's out of earshot of his Mrs, 'Stevo you know we had some good days out on bikes years ago, well I guarantee that when the kids are older and I can afford to have a toy again, I'm having another bike and she just doesn't know it yet'. I know he'll do it too, but when we chat he's not like at all resentful or really missing bikes here and now, but he's just parked the having a bike thing until the time is right again.

That or it's a mid-life crisis Smile

I had my similar soft top two seater at 25, and just fancied one convertible in my car history that's all. OP could be the same, and even a tatty sports car is better than rolling a generic Kia everyday, as that could be a genuine cause for depression IMO!

My only car regret is firstly not buying the Japanese supercoupe I once fancied and could have run at the time, and secondly non buying a retro classic much earlier when I had the space and time to do a proper car build from a shell up.

Bikes sort of cut in between early first car fiddling and today where cars are again a hobby not a useful mode of transport.

This. So much this.

Alcohol is a horrible cycle with depression, as it is a depressant and a "cure" for depression.

Avoid. Sleep more/earlier. Eat better. Go for a run.

All the boring shit you promised you would never ever do, do that.

But yes, low mood is a cock.

Could add meditation to that. It costs fuck all and as long as you avoid joining a cult safe and you never hear anything bad about it.

Running isn't going to happen

Hated it at school and hate it more now

Still feel down a lot

Sat here the other day and realised I had been staring at the trees in the garden for an hour
Just been doing it again
The beer is the only time I feel quite chilled
Out with my mates having a laugh is where I enjoy being

No advice really other than echo what others may have mentioned.

I've been suffering with serious anxiety and panic attacks for nearly a year, and it has at times affected my ability to work, socialise, or just do basic everyday things like walk to the corner shop or put the rubbish bin out. I thought anxiety was just a spotty head fucked teenager issue though and couldn't come to terms with it for ages.

I've found at times going out for a few beers and drinking with friends has made me feel much better than earlier the same day, or when I walked into the pub struggling to get the air in my lungs or find the breath to speak two words.

Trouble is it's not addressing the real cause of my issue, so like others have said it's no answer and no cure for being a fucking messed up twat with a stupid problem.

Have you had the holiday yet? It's always helped my mood a lot, on the drive down to my recent break I was looking at lorries coming the other way and thinking hmm..., came back feeling more positive about things.

I came to this late and can add nothing to the wisdom that has already been put forward.

My pennies worth is that it appears that you don't have much "me time".
Everybody needs a bit of "me time".

if you`re not in the best place how can you be in the best place to help those around you?
Make a bit of "me time" for yourself.
looking after yourself is not a selfish act if it helps you to be in the right place for those who you care about.

All work and no play will make Jack a dull boy.

I have given up good paying work in the past as it encroached on my "me time" and that was making me grumpy/miserable.
