Has anyone replaced the throttle cables on a CB500S?
The haynes manual (of lies) claims that it can be done with the carbs in place. It looks awfully tight but I'd rather not have to pull the carbs, is it possible?

Had a snapped throttle return cable on the CB500 1998 cup.
Swapped it in situ ...and it was a complete cunt of a job.
There's not much clearance at all but it can be done.

I imagine I was doing it ignorantly, but even slackened off at both ends it was a bitch, felt like I was going to snap something.
It oddly didnt seem to matter which end i attach first, was a bitch either way.

If I had to do it again, I'd remove the carbs instead.

Pulling the carbs on a CB500s is piss easy.

The airbox pivots back off them (and back onto them after). Remove the battery then undo the relevant bolts then pivot the airbox away and hold it back with a bungee. You can then pop the carbs off with ease. The airbox rubbers stay attached to the airbox and slot back into place when you pivot it back into position.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad actually. Cheers for the advice.

How do you refill the carbs when they are back on the bike? With no prime setting how is vacuum supplied? Hand pump on the vacuum intake?

Just crank it over with the choke on. Doesn't take long.
