Tried to get the carburettors off because I reckon the massive flat spot at 8000-9000 revs might be due to worn (Dynojet) needles and/or jets. Now having a tea break to calm down after struggling to even see the carb clamp bolts, let alone undo them. Still one in the middle to go.

Will the bike still be on the needle at those revs?

I knew I should have asked here first. I'm not sure if you're telling me it won't, or just asking, but I know you're savvy so I might be due a "Doh!" moment. I thought the needle functioned between 20-80% of throttle range? The ZX6R revs to 14k. What else might it be? Coils?

Upped the boost, fitted clip ons, cleaned it a bit, new clutch lever. Got a date with the strip in August at the Bulldog.

Pulled Main and Idle jets - Previous owner upped the jets already ("Tuned, innit laaaa"), 105+35 vs stock 100+30. Put new jets to those values in, went to test it, anaaand the battery is flat. Will test tomorrow, if it's still shit, I'll chuck stock values in as it's still got an airbox, not a K&N.

Guess I'm getting a lift into work tomorrow, it's started to piss it down and I don't fancy lifting the tank to get it back on in that.[/img]

Scoots in for MOT at 09.00

Edit - And passed clean sheet. Tester was complimentary about its mechanical condition.
He was not so complimentary about the cosmetics as it has been chucked down the road a few times by the last owner. Laughing

6" over, lowered 2" in the back, 2" in the front and run with tie-downs. It still wheelies. A lot.

https://s17.postimg.org/jh9feaxz3/banditlaunch5done.png

Hence the clip-ons, trying to get weight further forward. You can see I haven't even got the clutch out in that pic and she's already up.

It's over 200hp and about 150lb/ft of torque so it's a handful, it's also about 250kg with all the turbo gear and extra oil (5.2 litres in this!). It's built primarily for road riding with a nod to straightline every now and then. Best time so far is a 10.009 @143. Really want to run a 9 hence the clip-ons and a bit of extra boost. Hopefully should push me over the threshold.

Hi

At the weekend I cleaned up a load of spare footrest hangers for the Cagiva. Picked a set and repainted them. Look OK, then found out the n/s front one I had chosen had a stripped thread where the gear lever bolts.

Ooops.

Ordered a helicoil kit and fixed that tonight.

Wonder what else I need to helicoil Laughing

All the best

Katy

Put the tyre pressures up to fat man mode as I weigh a bit more than previous owner and also tweeked the preload on the rear suspension

It's a Yamaha xj6 and put the preload from 3 to 4 having read the book and watched the videos

Caught one of the chain adjuster bolts on the point of seizing, so left them overnight with a bit of penetrating fluid, which fortunately was sufficient for the job, as I don't have anything suitable to get heat on them. Today, cleaned them up and copper greased them. Now both can easily be screwed all the way in and out by hand.

Examined the chain, as I thought I spotted a seized link the other day when applying a squirt of lube, but after cleaning and checking, all seem fine.

Fitted some cheapo shorty levers. Bought gold ones to sync with the gold forks and brake calipers and yellow shock.
Didn't work. They look appalling. On the plus side, add some tinsel and the bike looks very festive.

Added some cheapo stomp grips to try and stop banging the tank like a randy dog every time there is a whiff of a bump in the road.

Added 1/2 turn preload to shock which seemed to take some pressure of the front, bike feels more balanced again.

Picked the thundercnt up in a tiny berlingo van after the attempted theft on Friday.

Fuckers broke the steering lock, screwdrivered the ignition and then to top it all off cut the ignition loom..assume they were trying to hotwire it. Absolute fkwits couldn't even manage to steal it properly. All caught on cctv, in broad daylight with people in sight. The office is remote enough that you wouldn't stumble upon the bikes, you'd have to be actively looking for them

Why they chose an old yamaha instead of the 20k ducati panigale is beyond me.

Now to start striping the front end down and replacing things
