PostPosted: 15:45 - 13 Jul 2017    Post subject: Motad Spare Parts - available anywhere? Reply with quote

I have a CBR600 FM, that has a Motad exhaust fitted. The exhaust flange collar gasket things where the downpipes mate to the cylinder head have deteriorated and have rusted through.

I understand that sadly Motad have gone into liquidation, having been searching where to find spares I saw a few posts on here regarding Motad and I hope someone can point me in the direction of some help.

Thanks

If it's the gaskets that go between the header and the exhaust port you need then Wemoto stock both aluminium fibre and copper ones for your bike.

If it's the collars that the mounting plates tighten onto, then they're an integral part of the pipe.

A photo might help clarify...

I'm gonna guess he meant the collets, +1 for pics.

Copper exhaust gaskets oxidise not rust anyway don't they?

It amuses me how OP threw the names together of all 3 of the components in that general vicinity though.
You missed the bolts if you were trying for a full list OP. Very Happy

Ha, I'm not entirely sure of the name of the part I am after, pretty sure it isn't bolts though!

This is the part in question:

and:

There were four of them, one for each exhaust port.
This is them in the downpipe, and you can see why I need to replce them!

and old cylinder head:

They're the collets, I'm afraid I can't help you with the tomato source, but at least now you know the name.

A half-decent tin basher could make them. You could to if you could find the right size tube. If I had to do it I would make a form from a block of hardwood and just hammer them out.

More importantly, what are you going to do about your sheared exhaust stud?

Measure them and google/search ebay. You might have to go with split collets but that shouldn't be a problem.

Alternatively, do as Pete suggests. Thumbs Up

I have replaced the cylinder head so the stud issue is solved. (replacing the CH was the only way to solve it, my amatuer attemps turned it into scrap)

I'm a bit dubious about the half collets, they don't seemlike they should work, and be really fiddly. It seems a strange design, why are they made like that? Cheaper and easier to make?

Dammit.

The 35mm splits collets are too big. ID vs OD.

Can you trim them and reform?

I will try but I don't think I'll be able to do it accurately enough to get a good seal.

Then i'll be back to square one with a tappy exhaust!
