Not really. Was a recession then, but for most people probably quite mild compared to the early / mid 1980s.

And pretty much all of the 70s.

The point is that people that want chaos rarely (if ever) actually enjoy it when it happens... It tends to effect everything, even the things we take for granted.
It's unlikely we'll have the power cuts of the 70s and a 3 day working week sounds great except when it effects your own salary.

It is an extremely remote possibility, but IMO no one that really understands what it can mean, wishes for it to happen...

If you are referring to 2008 or thereabouts you are in for a big surprise when a proper sustained recession happens.

'Deepest recession since the war'.

A fair article: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/9849449/How-this-recovery-from-recession-compares-with-those-of-the-past.html

It's not so much the type of shit, as the depth of it and how quickly it drops to below mouth level...

As for the Telegraph article, I'm pretty certain I could find some numbers somewhere that tell us the last one was actually a good thing....
Obviously it wasn't but picking specific numbers could suggest otherwise.
It doesn't take into account far too many other issues beyond GDP.
I'm not really sure why they'd take 2 periods in the 70s as separate when it was really one much longer 'event'... maybe with a positive temporary blip in the middle (of much less than 3 years).
Thatcher was voted in in 1979 and wouldn't have been if the country wasn't already in a really terrible state...

They were separate AFAIK, mid 70s and early 80s. I found it interesting as it touched on how we were somewhat sheltered from the effects of the last one. Don't forget what Brown did, wrongly or rightly I doubt the Tories would have done the same.

Power cuts are probably likely for other reasons, such as the lack of investment in electricity supply while consumption goes up.

That the tories did is largely to allow the recessions to get on and done. Yes a hell of a lot of short term pain. This time round neither labour nor the tories did this hence the recession has been reasonably mild but gone on for a long time

All the best

Having done it once, I would never again buy anything listed that needed work/refurb.

Absolute nightmare, you end up in Kafkaesque relationship with the local authority conservation Dept which will end up costing you at least double what you planned.

If you don't apply for the appropriate consents, when you come to sell, you'll have all sorts of problems because unauthorized alterations can result in prosecution.

Buyer beware!
