I've been using Alpinestar Andes Drystar textiles for a while now and never had any issues. They've obviously got their limits in very heavy rain without extra rain gear over the top but for the price I've been happy.

I've suffered damp pants with them in heavy rain before usually down to pooling water etc. But I went out on saturday and rode 80 miles in torrential rain. From the moment I set off I felt cold water pooling around my bits.

By the time I got home my pants were soaked, as were my thermals, and water had run down the inside of my leg down into my boots. On inspection I was sad to note that the waterproof lining was completely torn away!

New troos needed then.

Torn between going for the same again - they are well priced and were pretty good up until they weren't (although the knee armour sat a bit low), plus the jacket is still doing its job - or replacing the suit.

If I go a full replacement, I'd be happy to step up a little bit for something that will last, but not go full Rukka / Klim type money. Anyone got good experiences with their gear that they'd recommend? What about some of the other A-star kit? Is their goretex any good?

Or does anyone know if other A-star trousers will work with this jacket (i.e. zip into it)?

Cheers, T

What about the Richa Cyclone or Rev-it neptune with the removal gore tex liners?

That had been my first instinct but the waterproof lining has completely torn away inside the trousers

I have the Andes jacket and pants. Both are still waterproof after several
years. I don't use them every day, because I have a cheap pair of
RST pants for everyday hacking and Aldi Kevlar jeans for warm weather.

Punctured/split/torn membrane = leaks, no matter how much 'stuff'
you spray on them.

Or you could carry a pair of waterproof over-pants.

I would buy another pair of the pants. I wouldn't buy the jacket again.
It is waterproof, but it is too warm and sticky for at least nine months
of the year. Removing the thermal lining makes it even worse. The smooth
surface of the permanent liner feels like wearing a plastic bag at this time
of year.

If you are willing to pay more for guaranteed waterproof gear,
Gore-TEX is the obvious answer. Alpinestars stuff looks ok, although
it is made in Vietnam, so the build quality is probably similar to the
cheaper stuff (Andes, Bogota etc...)

I would expect them to fit. If you want to be sure, check for zip fit and
length before you buy.

If you don't want to be bothered with waterproof liners Gore-Tex pro is the way to go. The gore-Tex is laminated to the outer shell.
