Right, decided to sort my leaky pipe for once an for all.

where the link pipe slots into the collector end/ downpipes is 56mm OD, there is a slot cut into the bottom of this pipe but its been crushed closed.

The link pipe is 51mm OD

I bought a "standard" graphite gasket which is 58mm OD which obviously goes no where near it.

Now i could probably get the graphite gasket to fit if i uncrushed the collector pipe, but the ID of the gasket is about 55mm so the linkpipe will still be rattling around?

am i being a mong, or have i got the wrong gasket?

My Bandit link pipe and collector is all weird sizes due to being repaired (badly) in the past (by me!)

Any chance some loon has butchered yours?

Edit - Although from memory, that pipe size sounds about right. You may have the wrong gasket!

Standard repair on Bandit headers for me has always been a 60mm stainless collar welded on where the old one snaps off. Bang your 58mm o/d gasket in, link pipe fits into that, clamp it down, forget about it.

any recommendations how to open up the slot cut in the tube which has been squished shut - without deforming it all out of shape?

just cut a bit of pipe 60mm wide to try an force the collector end of the pipe open a bit to get the gasket in

Also took a few mil off the gasket to make it a bit easier to fit, hopefully will be able to nip it up with a clamp

who knew fitting a gasket could be this arsey

Try some copper infused silicone.

I use it on a flex pipe on the exhaust, which moves a lot more than your headers will. Zero issues.

If you're going to use silicone then a low modulus type would probably be best.
