I've just noticed Yamaha is raising prices:

MT09

2014 - £6,799
2016 - £7349 +8%
2017 - £7999 +18%

MT10

2016 - £9999
2017 - £10999 +10%

Wonder is this Yamaha only thing or all bike manufacturers are doing it?

Are the prices going up for purchases in EUR or USD?

If they have to import anything, then might the fall in the value of the pound be partly to blame?

It'll be a triple whammy

Inflation in Japan and/or China (wage, raw materials & consumables)
Drop in the value of sterling, compared to the USD than pre brexit referendum levels.
Inflation (wage, raw materials & consumables in the UK)

But yeah, the largest effect will be due to the knock on effects of the brexit referendum

I wondered where that new bike smell came from.

A bit cynical but true, and part of business economics is:

If something is selling very well or much better than expected, then raise the price, as the market will probably stand it, if the product is seen as worth having or the best in class etc.

Also if you can sell way more bikes than you can make, or have a limited production run of say 1000 bikes, but theres orders or would be orders for 2000, then again you can sell for more than your initial retail price set, as people will compete to be one of the lucky 1000 etc.

Sure exchange rates, manufacturing costs, materials costs, and legislation regulations affect prices,as does changes in suppliers and the brand and spec of the std equipment between different years.

But the above does go on quite alot too.

I'd say that trying to pick out and tie down all factors exactly for prices is like trying to agree on Gospel bhp figures, between quoted and true, as it's impossible for most to know except for people in the industry.

Brexit... GBP is worth less that ever... so the prices reflect that as almost all bikes get imported.. it applies to all imported goods really.

I wonder one thing... Once we leave the EU will we still be importing same bikes like the rest of the EU. Those strict Euro emission regulations affect performance.. and I'm not a fan of ABS either.
