Yeah yeah I know it's July but I got caught out in some pretty heavy rainfall recently, wearing a thin summer jacket.

With that in mind I'm facing a few commutes in the cold winter that's surely around the corner. Therefore I'm in the market for a full rainproof suit to go over my jacket and jeans. Can anyone make any suitable recommendations? I've done some research and SPADA 408's look to be the business, but I'm keen to hear from more experienced and seasoned riders.

By far the best waterproof overalls I've ever had were from Stobbarts (the lorry people). I got them through a family friend and annoyingly lost them in a house fire last year.

Not sure if you can buy them, maybe you'd find them on ebay or something.

I have no need for them anymore anyway, because, goretex gear is the most versatile/convenient option, if a little more expensive.

I find the oxford rainseal jacket both cheap and effective. Presumably the trousers are just as good. More versatile than a suit (I have one of those two but it's a faff to put on/take off).

I've had a Richa Typhoon rain suit for years. Awesome.

Another + for the oxford rainseal jacket, I bought one the week before I rode to Wales, it chucked it down for the last 120 miles of the trip, at some points so heavy I considered stopping and hoping it would pass. Made it to the hotel and I was bone dry.

Trousers I was using were richa ones, only about £20 and again, great.

I did 10 hours in torrential rain last year coming through France and Germany in a Richa Rain Warrior jacket and ex-Army DPM waterproof trousers from eBay. Stayed totally dry.
The trousers are long enough to wear with braces to have a high waistband. and the jacket long enough to make sure there's no gap.

Alpinestars Drystar Express ( https://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/?ObjectPath=/Shops/10207048/Products/Alpinestars-Express-Drystar-Pant/SubProducts/Alpinestars-Express-Drystar-Pant-0002&Currency=GBP&Locale=en_GB&utm_source=Portalexport&utm_medium=GoogleShopping&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping_GB&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqvvLBRDIARIsAMYuvBFHiEQVfgcbg0tJj_1um4Miolma1FXDTPjSuwvb9KMO8dbnHU10G1MaAsW1EALw_wcB )

3 years, heavy use, crashed in and still waterproof. They are a loose enough cut to wear normal trousers under too. With the thermal liner removed they pack down tiny as well.

(Might be cheaper seller's)
www.thevisorshop.com/en/gb/RST-Waterproof-Rain-Suit-Gun-Metal-Grey-1801/m-13993.aspx

Been using one of these RST rainsuit's for over 6 years - despite being packed away in a damp bag and going very mouldy one year Whistle, its still going strong.

I wear a size 40 one-piece with it usually and the large suit fits nicely.

Rainpal?

I really like my aerostich Roadcrafter one piece - on and off in maybe 30 seconds, no need to take boots off.

Decently waterproof, armoured etc.

You'll have to keep an eye out for second hand ones to not spend silly amounts.
