The only time I've seen someone refused the 'on-road' part of the CBT was back in about 2002 when one of the students failed to demonstrate any balance.

I note that the school now say on their website:

Quote:
We also expect you to demonstrate good balance so you must be able to ride a bicycle.

Personally, I find that fair enough. If you have never been on a bicycle before and just turn up on the day of the CBT I think you're a fucking mong.

Perhaps OP was equally sperg. Who knows. We need the training school to jump in and have a chance to say their side of the story...

Don't know about everyone else but I certainly needed more than half hour practise on my CBT, even then I wasn't super confident on gears (could go up but not down Very Happy) so I did the CBT on a twist and go and practised in my own time in a parking lot on a geared 125.

edit: that being said - if you can't ride a twist and go after an hour or so's practise then maybe your balance etc isn't upto par.

Yep. Imagine my disappointment when I turned up for a CBT session in my finest leather gear to find that instead of Mistress Scarlet taking me into the classrooms it was a podgy middle aged bloke who wanted me to ride a little motorbike around the playground Crying or Very sad

I can only remember one person on here failing on a twist-and-go. A manual bike's tricky, especially if it's your first time. I struggled with the co-ordination (doing something different with each foot/hand), but was a lot better when out on the road (could have easily been 'failed' before then though).

It's surprising they didn't switch the OP to a moped, I'm inclined to agree it sounds like they wanted one person less, but if they kept 3 for the road ride then they'd still have needed 2 instructors? Confused

You mentioned You are SW London?

I don't know exactly where OBVs, but I deal quite a lot with the guys from Pheonix and Cardrome training schools (Both based near Bexleyheath) at work and they are very level headed and given how they talk to their students I think you would do quite well with them.

Pheonix especially get very good reviews on the FB groups I'm on.

As for the cutting you out because you are female thing, whilst its possible, I'd question whether that is really the case? As a beginner you won't really know what the instructor is looking for (especially if they are a bit shit, which it sounds like, and they've not explained properly) so you may not be in the best position to judge whether you were meeting the standards that they expected. Either way, its a bit shit that they want you to pay to come back
