Hi, All. The Tuono I recently acquired has carbon fibre frame and swing arm covers on but I'd like them off. They've seen better days so they're making the bike look a bit grubby, and I love the polished frame on the Tuonos - I'd quite like to see it.

So, how do I go about getting them off? Anyone any experience or advice to offer? They're well stuck. A bit of reading suggests they'll either be on with 3M tape or high temp sealant. My money is on sealant, from the feel of them...

Is this a job I'll hate myself for even starting?

Cheers,

Mark

It'll be a pig of a job. Tiger Seal seems to be highly rated for sticking guards on, so it'll most likely to be similar to that. Heat and carb cleaner/sticky label remover/silicone remover would seem to be your friends.

Thanks for getting back to me, mate. Yeah, I was hoping for someone to say otherwise but I knew it was coming...! It's a bit of a mess so I think I'm going to have to venture in. And then hate myself ten minutes later Rolling Eyes Laughing . Fancy a homer?!

I wouldn't worry, when you see the damage underneath that the original covers were ought to cover up, you'll be buying a new set anyway.

This is another fear I have - perhaps ignorance is bliss...?!

Maybe, but you can always cover them up again with a better looking set.

As above. A heat gun will be your friend here. Maybe coupled with acetone.

It is also when you find out if it's actual carbon fibre.
