Hey guys
I'm trying to sort the problem of the right cylinder intermitently not firing. I thought it would be a good idea to start with the ignition timing but i don't understand how to do it. I don't suppose anyone has some experience with the timing on this bike ?

wouldn't looking at the coils/ plugs be a simpler first step, than jumping into timing?

After-market Electronic ignition or points?

If points : you may think they look hunky dory when the bike is static/engine off , but they may be arcing/playing up at revs/under load? possibly? maybe?

I had a similar issue with an old Suzuki GT 250.
I set up the points according to the manual, but the bike would not run right???
In my anger i took the points out and hit them with a hammer until they were confetti.
After having to buy new points & condenser and putting them in, the bike ran fine.

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin

Have you done a compression test to see if the are any issues there?
Diaphragm carbs Evil or Very Mad so many little bits to go wrong?, will imbalance the running

Yea it's the standard points
I thought the arcing can be a sign of a broken condenser. Maybe hitting it led to the best solution. 😅
I'll have a look out for arcing.
I was wondering if I could swap the wires at the points then switch over the Ht leads to see if the problem switches sides.

I'm baffled
In the manual it says
"Rotate the engine until the points have closed and the F mark viewed through the aperture is approaching the timing plate pointer.
Connect the possitive lead of a voltmeter to the moving contact and the negative lead to an earth.
Slowly turn the engine until the reading on the voltmeter ceases and the pointer returns to zero. If the timing is correct the f mark should line up with the timing plate pointer tip. "
When I do this at first it shows 0.01 on the voltmeter and when the f mark lines up it starts alternating between 0.08 and 1.0.
This is for the points in the 10 o clock position for the let cylinder.

What am I doing wrong ?
