Evening all,

One of the two front disks on my Hornet f6 has warped and I have been trying to source a suitable alternative. I see there are many cheap Chinese branded (or even unbranded) sets out there. Apart from the genuine Honda OEM disks, which brands should I stick to? Also, should they be replaced in pairs?

I would happily pay slightly more for a set which matches the gold forks and callipers, but these seem few and far between in recognisable brand names.

Advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make sure it really is the disc that's warped first. Whenever I come across a suspect warped disc it's just corrosion on the wheel where the disc mounts. The solution is to remove the disc, sand back the mounting points until you get to fresh metal, then refit the disc.

If the disc really is warped, then EBC or ABE seem to be the trusted replacements.

OEM are invariably best and are £150 each on David Silvers. Cheaper than most people are knocking out EBC.

A check shows you can get brembo discs for £175 each. Mmmm Brembo.

Thanks guys. I will get the disks triple checked before swapping. They have 'SunStar' stamped on them so I am not sure if they have been swapped in the past, nor if SunStar made the OEM parts for Honda. Does anyone know?

Sunstar do make some of Hondas OEM discs.

I personally go for EBC.

They have anodised gold centres as well so your cosmetic requirements will also be met.

Turns out they're much more expensive for a Hornet than they are for both my CBR and VTR. I pay £125 a side.

Yours appear to be
£160 a side Shocked

My personal experience says otherwise.

They wailed like a dog in pain for the entire time I had them. They felt awful; absolutely no modulation at all.

And the worst part is they lasted me less than 4000miles.

It may well have been a one off circumstance though, so I'm not dismissing Armstrong entirely. I will just avoid them myself in case of having these issues again.

I have to say that my experience of Armstrong disks has been the opposite to yours. I fitted a pair to my OH's M750 and found them to be quiet and effective with plenty of feel. I'd rate them equivalent to the OEM Brembo disks. I've noticed no unusual wear patterns or rates so far.

It's possible that you got a duff pair - that can happen to the best of manufacturers, or another possibility is that Armstrong have upped their game considerably since you had your unfortunate experience. Thumbs Up
