There is a hole in the pipes so ive bought a new set of pipes and a new can. The garage i usually go to are saying best case scenario it will cost £140 labour and worst case would be £400. He said it depends if the bolts start snapping and if you have to take the engine out, and he said its not always possible to do.

Does anyone know if i can get it done cheaper or have any info on the matter that may help?

Cheers.

Sounds right. Changing exhausts on old bikes is a pig because of this.

You could do it yourself, slather the studs and nuts in some sort of decent penetrating oil and see if that helps things?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Soak the header bolts as much as you can, and for as long as you can with something like PlusGas or if you can't get hold of it, a generic penetrating oil. Don't hang off them if they won't undo - there are several threads on here from others who have had bolts snap on them and there are some very sensible ways to get around this (and many ways to fuck up the job completely).

Snapped bolts can still be fixed, but better not to snap them in the first place.

Try doing it yourself first - best case scenario you'll have no problems. Worst case, you'll have to post on here and ask for help, preferably with pictures.

Start soaking the stud nuts now, even if you;re not planning to change it for a bit. I did this on my Thundercat - a daily spray for about a week before I did the job. Whether because of that or not, the nuts all ran off beautifully with not a single snapped or even stiff stud.
