Anyone know how to force windows to re-negotiate audio over HDMI without restarting the machine?

That works however, my problem is the back of the AV receiver and the PC are not very accessible.

Do you mean so it uses the HDMI sound instead of another option?

Right click on the sound icon at the bottom right and click playback devices. You should get a list of all of your sound options. Click the one you want to use and click the Set Default button.

(You might mean something more complicated by "re-negotiate sound over HDMI" so I'm sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.)

Yeah, something more complicated. My AV receiver when in low-latency mode only does 2.0 or 2.1 channel 16bit/44.1kHz PCM audio but when turned on it does all kinds of formats. Windows doesn't re-negotiate the audio unless I physically unplug the HDMI cable or reboot, which is irritating at times.
