I recently gave up buying car parts off eBay, as I was ending up with what seemed to be very old stock, rubbers were perishing prematurely, etc.

I went back to my old ways of using a local motor factors (recently taken over by a small chain called Motex), and found there to be very little difference in price, plus I often was able to get the part the same day.

I've tried searching locally for motorbike motor factors, Google keeps throwing up car parts places, and motorbike repair garages.

Do any motor factors exist for bikes? Are there any that do both car and bike parts?

...or am I just best with FleaBay?

It's a Honda I want parts for, so I contacted David Silvers, but the prices seen a bit steep...

Interesting...
I found the studs on the cam caps on my car were badly stretched after one snapped whilst I was doing the valve clearances.

Thought I would call a Peugeot stealership for giggles as I was a little wary of using exhaust studs but was shocked to find they are giving them away at .80 pence a shot, with washers and nuts!

Admittedly it's an older car (1996) and a lot of stuff is going for clearence on flea bay but that's not a bad thing for non perishables (new clutch £40, branded pads and vented disks £29, OEM timing pulleys & pump £30).

But yeah, try calling a stealership... they might be able to provide a competitive alternative on serviceable/generic parts?

Wemoto for cheap generic parts, Fowlers Parts for slightly more expensive OEM parts. Fed up of buying gaskets on eBay and getting cheap gasket paper knockoffs instead of proper rubber/plastic/whatever ones

Mr Silver and Wemoto have supplied all the Honda parts I've needed over the recent years.
I don't think they're to bad for prices.
Never had any issues with either Smile

As for Honda stealerships, fugging rip off barstewards.
Many moons ago I bought some bearings for the front wheel of a Honda CD 175 from a bearings dealer on the local industrial estate.
The local Honda stealership wanted eight times the price for the same bearing because it was in a Honda packet..?

I've used Silvers in the past for CX parts, gaskets and seals mainly, and the £125 for the front disc for the CBF was expected, but £10 for an oil filter that is £5 on eBay, and £30 for an air filter that is £8 on eBay, just seems a bit steep.

Cheers guys, I'll have a look at said places.

Agreed that's a bit steep, however thief-bay fakers selling poor fakes on thief-bay is always a chance you take.
I've never had that problem with Mr Silver or Wemoto.

No I don't work for them Smile

My local shops don't sell stuff I need.

Ebay mainly where i get i.e. Bendix MRR brake pads, Motul RBF brake fluid, air filters, oil filters etc.

Tyres I get from Oponeo (my local motorcycle garage fit them for reasonable £)

Most big motor factors have decent sales often. Euro regularly have weekend sales that will knock 30/40% off the parts prices.

Also if you register with them log in then put the items in your basket and leave it an hour or 2 later they'll send you a discount code.

I got a Thermostat housing + thermostat for a new Fiat 500 for £20. Laughing

Euros don't do motorbike parts.

Besides, they are no cheaper (even with their 'sales') than the two car motor factors I presently use, one of which I have an account with anyway.

If they are having to compete with ebay it would concern me as to whether they were now selling the same 'unbranded' rubbish as the cheap as chips stuff on there.

Our local factors are the same, for example we fitted a set of front anti roll bar links to my works Vito van, 18 months down the line they are knocking like hell again. One of my work colleagues put a rear suspension spring on his Vectra, that has broken within a couple of years.

It seems that the quality of non-genuine parts has really gone down the pan.

It wasn't the quality that was the problem with eBay, it was the age of the parts.

Rear shock for the CBF500 also seems rediculusly expensive! Starting to see why I got this bike cheap!

Anyone know if they used the same shock in other models? Might help broaden the search...

Any reason you're replacing the rear shock? Might as well go aftermarket or second hand, as oem are normally a rip off.

Having just picked up an Italian Yamaha I now trawl ebay France, Italy and Germany for rare or NLA parts.

Might be another source for service items?

Don't go OEM for something like that. If you want half decent go Hagon. If you want very decent go Nitron or similar.

That's about par for a monoshock I'm afraid. You could look for a secondhand one on eBay...
