Do we suppose interactions with motorcycles have even appeared on their radar?

Do we suppose motorcycles will actually appear on their radar?

What happens to lorry 3 when a motorcycle cuts diagonally between 1 and 2 to make an off-ramp at the last second while travelling at double their speed. This WILL happen. Will the software cope or will it make the "driver" in wagon 2 have to drop his newspaper?

I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles.

My immediate thought was that drivers 2 and 3 would go full retard the moment the robopilot kicks in.

I thought they'd already announced some kind of trial like this that was going to be carried out on the M6 up north a year or two ago.

Maybe they are just getting around to it.

Not a fan of the idea tbh, it's bad enough having convoys of lorries on our roads with gaps between them, never mind having convoys with shitty tiny gaps.

On the up side, they won't be overtaking each other at 58 and 59mph respectively... on the downside, having a non-convoy lorry overtaking them will take bloody ages...

If they could put that front-sensor technology in all trucks to stop them driving up the arses of non-trucks though... that would be awesome.

They could put some pretty bunting between the lorries to stop people going through the gaps. That would be nice. Rolling Eyes

BBC breakfast yesterday demonstrated the AI making a decision to avoid a car by mashing a quad bike.

There are a few examples of self driving cars mashing motorcycles because they don't see them. https://newatlas.com/tesla-autopilot-fema/46045/

Quote:
forward collision warning systems for automobiles fail dramatically to detect motorcycles, providing inadequate results in 41 percent of tested cases, against only 3.6 percent for passenger cars.

Also, we already have 'self driving lorry convoys' only we call them freight trains.
