So, a bit of a random one, but I come seeking, once again, BCF's eternal wisdom.

I need to pass a fitness test. Now, the link below is the beep test we use. I need to get to level 86.

Anyone on here have any experience with passing beep tests and can give any pointers as to the best technique and training ideas / sessions that would be amazing?

I am currently around level 66, and I have just under a month.

Get the tape, get the correct distance and practice. That's all. By the time of the test you should roughly know when to hit the line with the beep. Easy.

Run/walk each level at the speed needed to pass. If you hammer out the early ones 10 times faster than needed you are just wasting energy you need at the later levels.

There will be no drug tests involved, so anything to boost performance isn't out of the question lol.

Ok, so the advice given so far seems to match with what my plan is Smile

Practice practice practice. HIIT Training and probably a bit more practice.

Off topic but you brought it up Whistle what has been happening (I lost interest a while ago)? KappaGamma once touted by the Adams failed to deliver a rival product?

Im not sure anyone knows. kappaGamma thing disintegrated in a rather anti-climatic. Regardless if it was ever real or not, it definitely did the job of poking and prodding the Adam into a deeper world of confusion.

you get like 2 warnings before you're disqualified, right?

so "walk" 2 - take the warnings - run one, warnings reset to zero.

rinse and repeat.

You still have to catch up within the shuttle so reality is you will be sprinting the third, which will tire you quicker.

If you are able to listen to iPod whilst doing it (many test based qualification regimes won't let you though) get some angry music on to pass the time, a big part of it is overcoming the monotony of the beeps and the pointlessness of running back to where you started.

Other than that, build your pace gradually, keep a fixed point on the target wall that will keep your head up and breathing well, and instead of turning on your heel at the line jog around an imaginary roundabout. Seems like more work but is a big help in keeping the rhythem. Interval training on the mill or jogging and sprinting between alternative lampposts I found works well. Aim to be comfortable at twice the time your target level takes to reach.

Interval training helps bring up your stamina.

Walk for 3 minutes sprint for 1 then rinse & repeat slowly lessen the walking time & increase the sprint time.

If it's for army selection, it's probably more important that you keep hammering at it until you barf than achieving the actual level.

But as others have said, cross the line on the beep, don't go faster than you need to.

When your arse starts to drop out, remember to concentrate on breathing out, the breathing in will happen by itself.

its all about efficiency.

don't run over the line, start to slow down in advance so that you don't waste energy on stopping after the line. don't panic if you miss one, just up your effort % accordingly. slow breathing.

(source) boxing training / always being last remaining on the bleep tests

good luck

What amount of time does it take to get to level 86?

I'd make sure you can at least run continuously for that amount of time plus maybe 50% more. Don't worry about the speed, just make sure you don't stop. I'd be doing these longer runs once or maybe twice a week.

This reminds me that I need to do a lot more training, can't run for shit.

surely time will tell? bit early to judge after a week

40-60 mpg depending on length of journey and no problems yet.

I just got in from doing a beep test.

We were using some tennis courts in the park at dusk, and marked it out with coloured glow sticks.

20metres with 10 beeps per level. I made it to the end of level 8 or 89x20metre sprints, it was the turns that did for me. Couldn't make it to the line for the beep, could have kept running though.

second time, I gave up at level 7

then we did group relays at 50metres. I ran to and from the venue as well.

In conclusion, beep tests are tough. Laughing
