That embarrassment as I pass somone at 120 then two minutes later they see me roll to a stop and change my throttle grip at the side of the road Embarassed It happens to me quite often.

I need a better glue. I've tried many, each will last for 3-6 months. Needs to be good with the temperature of heated grips as I will be using them soon.

always just used the mrs' hairspray.

had heated grips on my old CBR600, put them on myself and never had any problems with using hairspray

don't want something too strong or you'll never get it off if you need to replace them.

are they old and loose(ooh err) by any chance? might be an idea to get some new grips for a better fit first

I have spare throttle tubes and they are nice splined fit without having to bugger around with the throttle cable. The grips came with the tubes, the factory glue doesnt last long.

I would like it to be a permanent fit.

I do not care about being cheap. This needs to be permanent. Anyone used safety wire to tie the grips on?

I have tried hairspray and it did not work. Soon as it got hot it failed.

My heated grips are held on with hairspray. All the grips on both my and my wifes bikes are. That's 5 bikes currently. So the question becomes what are you doing with your throttle?

Anyway. Gorilla glue (the clear, brown polyurethane stuff). Don't expect to get it off again. Ever. You'll be looking at buying a new throttle twist if the grip wears out. If you're very lucky, you might be able to cut the grip off in tiny pieces.

Degrease the twist grip and inside of the handgrip with a high flashpoint solvent.

Apply the glue thinly to inside of the grip with a stick, keeping it a good 10mm away from the cable end. Don't get it on your fingers or clothes, they will go black.

Slightly roughen the throttle twist with sandpaper and wipe it with a damp cloth (the glue needs moisture to start the curing process).

Fit the grip. Wrap string round and round it tightly along the full length. Do NOT fit the bar end weight.

After 2 hours remove the string. Cut off any excess that has frothed out from the inside with a knife. The fit the end weights.

Polyurethane glue cures solid but with a slight foaming/expansion. It'll fill all the gaps between the surfaces and will foam out of the end a little (hence the gap at the cable end). By compressing it with the string (You could use gaffa tape too I suppose), you make the bonding interface extremely tight, it expands less, thing higher density foam but it will still retain some flex. It might bulge the rubber grip up if you don't compress it as it's curing.

The grips may have bagged out as cheap grips can.

First heated grips I fitted were a bastirt for coming off.

I used evo-stick.

No problem after that.

If using anything as an adhesive it is paramount that the surfaces are mertikuluslly cleansed. Sterile is what you are looking for.

If you glue onto shite then you will fail.

I've always used bathroom silicone sealant, works a peach holding it rock steady and just peels off when it's time to change them instead of an 'orrible mess.
