|
|
Hi there.
Two simple questions for you all.
1. Are there any completely heat resistant motorcycle covers that won't burn on contact with he exhaust? I brought the Oxford Aquatex which said heat resistant up to 150* but even after waiting a couple minutes it still melted a bit on the exhaust pipes If nothing is completely heat resistant whats the best out there? Also, it would be good if it wasn't so think and large that it couldn't be packed away for long trips.
2. Has anyone ever used T-Cut with a drill piece buffer to clean/polish their pipes? If so any tips you can share pleaser.
Cheers,
E |

Let the bike cool for five or ten minutes.
And polishing using the wax sticks.
Polishing is simply removing material from the surface of something using a harder material of some sort. (Grit)
To polish you have to make all the 'marks' the same size.
You remove larger amounts using a course grit.
Then finer grit and finer again to get the polish towards 'mirror' finish.
It depends entirely on ones personal pedant.
It also becomes a chore as the shine will become dull over time or with use and it is all to do again.

I have a oxford stormex cover which doesn't seem to melt after a 5 min cool down on bike
But I also have a Yamaha xj6 which as most will know has a very under slung exhaust which doesn't stick out much.
So to clarify maybe it's new bike time |

You do wonder at today's intelligentsia.
Bike stopped, still hot, throw plastic cover over it, whine when it melts.

Todays intelligence? Alright then, JW. I happen to work in film production and we seem to plenty of materials that are heat proof to extreme temperatures for lights, plastics, canvases, etc. Maybe with your stale imagination you can’t see further than what is already there.
Anyway, Stormex sounds like a good bet, and I guess I will have to line it with a special material I know of to fit the purpose as suggested.
Ordered the polish grit bar to use, but I have some old chrome I might test the drill buffer piece with some T-Cut just to see what happens
Cheers for all the suggestions |

Modern, schmodern. You want the oldest fashioned of old fashioned fabrics.
As I said. Canvas tarpaulin cover.
You get hot roasting tins out of the oven with a tea-towel.
Also breathable.
Can't see anyone selling them online for motorbikes but you can buy a big rectangular one or have someone make one up. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
