Universal Footpegs, types and fitments?

I appear to have an odd array of footpegs on my CBF500. Up front I've got one correct peg, and one pillion peg, on the back I have the other pillion peg and a random riders peg off another bike.

So, eBaying CBF500 pegs, I noticed a few universal ones popping up.

How generic are the fitments on these?


I also noticed adjustable position ones. That got me wondering about the possibility of changing my riding position slightly, and seeing if that helps stop me loosing the feeling in the tip of my 'thing' after 20 mins of riding. Worth a shot maybe?


Also, on a lot of bikes I look at, the front pegs are rubber coated, the rears are bare metal, any reason for this?

Then we have universal extra-wide pegs, what is the benefit of them?


I thought I was just going to go on eBay, find a pair of pegs, and buy them. Too many options!

Move the pegs by much and you'll need to move the levers.

I did consider that. But my theory on those was potential bending.

But they do only drop by 1" max.

Not sure that foot position will help much with that, especially with the limited change that you'll get with adjustable footpegs. If you do get some, make sure that they still allow your pegs to swing upwards. There is one potentially lethal set available for the Pan that stops the pegs moving, so if you ground it out (as you're likely to do with lower pegs) you have a hard, fixed point on the ground ready to snag on something or pivot you.

I've got pegs on that move my feet forward about an inch, and down by about an inch. As Stinkwheel says, I had to adjust my shift and brake levers (just rotate them one notch on the splined shaft). It does ease my knees a bit, but not a massive amount. Can't say it makes any difference to my sitting position - try just moving between ball of the foot on the pegs and flat foot on them, it doesn't shift your gentlemanly parts much at all. A different seat or pad would likely help more.

My pegs actually got put on because Mrs Bamt had knee pain when riding pillion, so I put on the MCL bike specific kit that moved her pegs down by a couple of inches and forward by a couple of inches. That few inches made it much more comfortable for her, but I had to move my pegs a bit so our feet didn't clash. It really didn't make enough difference for me that I'd do it just for my use.

Grip and comfort on the front, looks, cheapness and ability to tuck out of the way on the rear? The Pan has rubber on both.

More comfortable for touring or standing up on.

I did think that might be the case with the wide pegs. I'm unlikely to do much standing though!

I might end up going non-dried, if it won't make much difference. Although it might still help with fitting size 14 boots in! Lol
