It's probably a good thing, modern engines are not exactly visual works of art. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Very smart to make the road bike an 1100, with a 1000cc 'R' homologation version for racing. It makes sense in a number of respects:
- Although it's no longer a V-twin, it retains a USP, and probably retains some of the character/torque of the big twin.
- It means that they can run it in a lower state of tune and still compete with the most powerful 1000cc bikes. That's very wise for the first year of production, and reduces the likelihood of 1st gen mechanical issues, which would be costly for Ducati and irritating for customers.
- It provides the opportunity to compete directly with the V4 1100cc Tuono, should they use the engine (or the entire platform) for a super naked in the future.
Aside from the engine, the information (inc. photographs) that is available suggests significant continuity from the Panigale, both aesthetically, and from a chassis (monocoque) and packaging perspective. Probably electronics too. Hopefully that means that it isn't drastically more expensive.
I'll be keen to take a test ride. ____________________ Current: Ducati Panigale R / Ducati Streetfighter S / Suzuki GSX-R1000 L5 |

Agreed, but not sure on the test ride bit.
As I don't expect litre superbikes to last much into the next decade, then sticking to 1000cc does seem a little silly, if your making willy waving bikes for people with money to spend.
Additionally, as 1000's have got revvier/peakier, and are stunted low down for emissions and noise regs, as well a needing electronics to make them more usable. The idea of going to a bigger engine for a pure road bike (sales grabbing superbike) makes sense. If people really must have 200bhp motorbikes today, then making that power more smoothly from a bigger less revvy engine will probably/possibly help people to control them better and make them more comfortable and real world quicker on them too. |
