Oops, sorry about the delay. There was some danger of the professional motorcycling press reporting these first this month!

https://www.mcia.co.uk/Uploads/Statistics/Press-Statistics-201708.pdf

Bigger bikes are up-a-bit, down-a-bit, but 125s are just fvcked, down 36% on August 2016.

That's the 2016 pre-reggers well and truly gone from the dealers, but new sales are still dropping so it looks like a £2K+ price floor for the cheapest FI/CBS Whang Dongs and close to £3K OTR for the cheapest YamaHonda (made in China anyway) has managed to properly gut the market for cheap transport. Round of applause, Brussels, I hope you're proud of what you've achieved.

Surprisingly though, Lexmoto still manages to bag the #4 spot, which suggests that other Chinabike sellers might be really struggling, and YamaHonda sales aren't exactly rampant either.

Honda pips BMW in the still-strong Adventure Sport category with the CRF1000, but the big Nazi Tractor retains the litre-plus crown.

The new CX500 "Rebel" tops the 126-650 category, and the PCX 125 is the best selling 125, with the CB125F topping the naked sales. Woo, thrills-a-plenty.

BMW and Harley have unusually low sales, but I expect that's just buyers holding out for their PCP plans to rent them new-plate bikes this month.

Supersports have been on a downwards spiral for some time, but that is limp.

YZF-R125 is still going strong though. Rolling Eyes

its the ridin position that's seein them off ... many will disappear into the back of garages ... see what second hand stock dealers have.... ;not many hypersports there; ... only to be seen half a dozen times a year.. and then only for a short blast.. Sad

The Africa twin sales Shocked

Must be that £39.27 a month at 0% plus free luggage.

https://www.lingshondabikes.co.uk/new-bikes/adventure/crf1000-africa-twin-372077.html

As much as I wanted to like it when it came out there are much better adventure bikes than that around.

That doesn't surprise, nor that it tops the Custom group.
If you're into that kind of thing it is a pretty compelling package to live the dream. I wonder if Honda will change their strapline for that bike about how it will allow you to "Express your individuality" - by riding the best selling bike in the class like everyone else Very Happy

I know, right. Assuming you use your whole 4k a Year allocation (wow, such adventure) you're at 44p a mile before you've put fuel in it and the rest of the usual expenses. That's of course assuming you don't drop your wow such adventure bike whilst parking up on the village green in East Sussex to get your bacon roll.

And you only have to pay them £4K up front in order for them to allow you to rent one of their bikes and return it in pristine condition.

The CMX500, you should be able to meet other owners easily enough and compare beards: they'll be at petrol stations, filling up that 11.2 litre tank.

It depends what you want it for. If it's for serious adventure riding the 650-800 class is a much better bike for off road, less weight etc.

If its for tarmac touring a la 90% of sales, even Honda make a better bike, the VFR1200X and I'd take the Yamaha Tracer, the Triumph Explorer or Tiger Sport over the Africa Twin as well. All are as cheap or cheaper

To me Honda missed a trick with the new Africa Twin. It should have been a simple, light, powerful bike. it's actually just another adventure rehash.

the niche market you missed is the urban runaround 80% with off road use age 10% coupled with short distance camping / rallys.. 10%
the others are too big for the off road & nippin in & out of traffic...
and bein a Honda the power delivery will be silk smooth.

ps.. I fcukin hate triples.

Well I hate twins Razz

Obviously it's purely personal choice and today you won't get a bad bike from one of the big manufacturers. I stand by my feelings that Honda have missed the boat with this on though.

Having said that doesn't mean they won't sell, they will as shown by last months figures. In fact they will probably sell better in the guise they are than if they had made a proper Paris Dakar type bike.

So Honda know their market better than me Folded arms
