Good.

Perhaps it will remind other cyclists that it's a roadway shared with everything from pedestrians to articulated lorries and not a velodrome.

And that you're better off leaving the scene of the accident and disposing of your bicycle.

He didn't do himself any favours by posting comments on whatever news website it was and twitter.

And from what's been in the news, it doesn't seem that he tried to offer a defence or question the claims about braking distances.

Confused

From what the news reports say he did seem to show the slightest bit of remorse either.

Courts don't like that, i think he'll end up getting a sentence at higher end of what is available

That's lesson #2 (get a good legal team), although like with KTM guy, you hope common sense would be present in court.

Cyclist/pedestrian collisions are flavour of the month then. Meanwhile...

Around 98% of serious or fatal pedestrian injuries in urban areas (i.e. where pedestrians are most likely to be) are due to collisions with motor vehicles.

Gotcha. Thumbs Up

Who's massaging the figures now?

I saw that link and knew you would post it. Many pedestrians on the motorway? Many people going on 100 mile bicycle rides?

The figures are for miles travelled, not numbers of vehicles.

Motorcycles seem to be disproportionately high don't they. About as bad as last time I looked at this.

The way the data are gathered probably significantly underestimates cycling mileage.

I'm sure its already been mentioned in this thread that many cyclist already have liability cover either through home insurance policies or through other means.

You get free insurance if you join british cycling, strava might even offer it as a bonus for being a premium member, but i'll have to check.

It's voluntary though, not compulsory. With the latest wave of Kamikaze cyclists killing pedestrians, maybe now is the time to introduce a bit more legislation and control, to instill a sense of responsibility for their actions?

Laughing Hilarious - he's off again! There already is legislation.

The responsibility for their actions? What about the actions of the pedestrians, stepping into the path of the cyclists? Surely that's what you're really itching for?

Interesting thought - in many places in the US, it's illegal to walk across a road outside of marked areas. You can be arrested for it. Why not that?
