Interesting. Not sure what the thinking is behind it other than to fix the issue of the current fixed date to a rolling age related date method instead. Either way, it seems they've just pushed on and got it done, despite some pretty strong counter arguments.
Particularly like the fact they're not going to legislate what a substantial change is, and just issue guidance. Can see that going well. |

The roads will be a more dangerous place!
My CXs are only 4 years away from 40. I could cobble them together and just ride away. Scary. ____________________ '07 Honda CBF500 / '93 Vauxhall Astra (www.fb.com/2wdOffRoader) / '04 Vauxhall Movano

Fuck me your a moaning old lot on here!
If you own a 70's bike it's going to be cheaper to run and less hassle as no MOT.
Instead your worried about the billions of 40year old cars on the roads in daily active service, that are going to knock you off your bikes and kill you.
Get real maybe?
If your CX is a shonkey old dangerous nail, then do us all a favour and scrap it. That way you'll save some bikers, car drivers, pedestrian and cyclists lives probably too.
Or is it bike riders against the rest off the world? Because everyone who doesn't ride one daily as their way of life is a fucking wanker who we must unite against?
Some if not all people will really take pride in their 40year old vehicles, like you would if you owned a 40year old Record, or book, or toaster etc.
Its throw away white goods car every 8-10years and the last two seasons Chinese takeaway rust in peace bikes you should be scared of IMO. |

According to the consultation paper only 3% of accidents involve vehicles that were considered 'unroadworthy'.
Currently, vehicles 40 years or older make up less than 1% of vehicles on the road.
The chances of the new regulations kick starting a new kitten genocide are extremely small! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

AIUI there is no MOT for any bikes in the IOM and there is definitely no MOT for any bikes in Cyprus, can't say I've seen any spontaneously combust or reduce themselves to a heap of scrap, for no apparent reason! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |
