Apocryphally, he only did Deep Blue Sea because there was a decent golf course near to where they were filming. Star Wars required a purple lightsabre and "not dying like some little bitch".
After Pulp Fiction, I think he realised that he could just show up, chew the scenery for a few minutes, and pick up his cheque. Fair play to him. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Terminator 2 (3D) 8/10 - kinda strange going to the cinema to see something you've already seen, but I wanted the chance to see this on the big screen, mainly as the last time I saw the film I found it a refreshing break from all the CGI shite you get nowadays.
The 3D's done well, I'm not a fan usually but it makes an impact. What I found odd was you stop noticing the 3D as the film goes on, I dunno if they dialled it down a bit as the film progressed, or you become acclimatised to it. There was the odd blurry bit in shot but I've seen that in films made specifically to be 3D, and maybe some of the fight scenes were a bit too fast for 3D, but in contrast some of the shots looked epic.
The story was deeper than I remembered, I guess we're used to taking the piss out of Arnie's acting, but the other actors are really good and the story's particularity poignant now (with what's going on with N.Korea etc.).
Is it worth paying £15* to see it at the cinema... probably not, but seeing as you spend £10+ to take a chance on a new release, it's worth doing IMO. I'd also rather pay to see a remaster than a crummy remake, or a half-arsed squeal that Hollywood so loves. It also helps I was a bit too young to see it the first time round
*regional prices may vary... this was central London which isn't that bad. |

Senna 9/10 - seen this multiple times now (Cinema/DVD/TV) and loved it everytime. I'm not a Senna fanboy, I see him more as a Schumacher type figure, but this is so well done I feel the urge to watch it again every so often (similar to Road).
Not sure what the appeal would be to non-motor racing fans, but if you're into motor-racing you'll love it, and you've probably already seen it... watch it again |

Unlocked 6/10
Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc) Orlando Bloom, John Malkovich and others. Fairly generic secret service/anti terrorism/spy movie. Quite well done. Michael Douglas also appears. Ending was a bit abrupt but overall watchable.
We recently watched Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, a so-called classic from 1974. Unwatchable. Turned it off. I remembered it as being much better but those were different times. It hasn't aged well.

This is England 6.5/10 - saw this year's ago and didn't think much of it, although the ending was quite powerful. Watching it again it's a lot better than I remember, although I still don't get what the relationship between a 12 and 15/16yr old's all about, surely that's paedophilia
I might give the series another go, although I only remember the last part being good, when Woody seemed to carry over his character from Misfits. |

Masaryk - 8/10
The Jan Masaryk's story, the Czechoslovak minister of foreign affairs, during the begining of the WWII and then the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Karel Roden did a great job, but the film was very slow and tried too hard to be politically correct. Eitherway, it showed pretty well the despair of Czechs (Slovaks separated from us and became the Nazi state), when we were told to feck off when asking our allies for help. But that is something an outsider won't really care about, so for the ''international'' audience, 6.5/10 would be more accurate.
It's mostly in English.
Anthropoid - 6/10
The story of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Operation Anthropoid. The events are very well known, the film was well made, but the British/American actors trying too hard to have an whatever eastern european accent made the whole film seem cheap. I had an issue understanding what they were saying in some places.
It's all in English. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Dunkirk
Took the good lady out on Friday to watch this. I felt a little bit let down. I'm not a massive war film fan, but there are some decent ones out there and due to all of the hype this has had, I was expecting something similar to Saving Private Ryan. Instead, it was a 90 minute film with maybe 8 minutes of dialogue. Three intersecting stories representing the RAF, Navy and Army (Land, Sea and Air), but it was all a bit disappointing. It wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't great.
6/10
The Hitmans Bodyguard
Been looking forward to this since I saw a trailer, and although all the funniest bits are pretty much in the trailer, I still enjoyed it. Ryan Reynolds was just Deadpool in a nice suit, Sam L J does his usual m*therf*cking thing, and I thought Salma Hayeks character was brilliant.
7.5/10
Passengers
Seen it before at the cinema, but the boy was interested so I sat and watched it again. It looked better in the cinema (massive screen, good picture, brilliant sound) but still a decent film and the boy got really engrossed.

American Made
8/10
Yes, Tom Cruise is in it, but it is a good film, some good tongue in cheek moments, some outright funny, and a couple of bits that depicted the violence of the Medellin cartel. The film is also interspersed with news clips etc from the time, the film is based on the true life story of Barry Seal.
Well worth a watch

I also saw this, I'd have gone 7 or 7.5, but it is very good. There is a book that I read a few months back from someone else involved in the story (not in the film) called American Desperado by Jon Roberts - have a read, there are some insane stories in there... ____________________ thx1138 wrote: Well if you had a car, I'd bet it would smell like urine had had drunken sex with vomit and made a poo baby.

It https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1396484/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I read the book as a kid, watched the 2 part miniseries in the 90's, and then watched the film tonight.
It confused me a little, because if you've read the book or seen the miniseries, you know it hops from the 1950's as kids, to the 1980's as adults. The 2017 movie is just about the kids (set in the 80's ? ), and I kept looking at my watch trying to see how they were going to fit the adults part in, but it didn't. It's only when you get to the final credits that you find this was "It chapter 1".
There are a few differences in plot lines between the book and the film. Some for the better (no kids shagging lol), but some just leave you thinking "That's not right!" - No silver bullets from catapults, and no battery acid asthma inhalers amongst others.
To me, Tim Curry from the 1990 version makes a much creepier Pennywise than Bill Skarsgard in the 2017 version.
Enjoyable, with a few jump scares, but I was really expecting more.

Deserter 4/10
A half-hearted attempt to adapt Simon Murray's "Legionnaire" for the screen. Even the film title is a misnomer. Read the book, it's a million times better. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

The House - 6/10
Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler need money to send their daughter to college, so they start their own casino.
I enjoyed this one, Ferrell did a good job. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Transformers The Last Knight : 6/10
This is how good it was... I looked at the length and it says 2:30 or something. Started watching it at midnight, finished the film at 1am.
Thought to myself, that's fucking mad, I just watched a 2.5hr film in 1hr
I have this Android remote for my PC and I must have hit the seek button and skipped 1.5hrs of the film and didn't even notice because the story is so shit anyway. |
