I've had issues with a sticky throttle (when throttling down), turns out the throttle deaccelerator cable is causing the issue. I've removed it and now everything's fine, do I actually need that cable installed, it doesn't seem to do anything, is it required for MOT purposes?

I cant see the point of the cable at all. It's non adjustable, and no matter how I route the cable from handlebar to carb the problem remains, it sticks randomly, nothing wrong with the cable.

Thanks for any help.

Hmm, was my first thought (of course), works fine connected to the carb but not when in situ at the twistgrip as well, twist grip is lubricated, no issues there. Loosening off the two cross head screws that secure the cable bracket helps, almost like something's out of kilter. Cant spot anything, it's extremely weird.

There will be a rough spot in the cable, either at a low point where water sits or at a tight bend when the cable is in its usual position/route so the inner has heavily worn the outer.

Top tip: There's something wrong with the cable.

You can try blasting brake cleaner down it and working the inner up and down, this can work wonders. Don't try and lube it, this just makes things worse/grabbier - it stops the nylon/teflon/whatever coating from working properly. But you will be best off with just replacing the cable.

Whether you are in danger of the butterfly sticking open without a cable to pull it closed is of course up for debate, it's hard to imagine that manufacturers fit cables for no reason but on the other hand very few people have ever experienced that phenomenon, as far as I know. Maybe you can be a guinea pig, thrash it and see?

Never come across that before, I've owned a handful of the CB250 MC26's and throttle has never been a problem.

Just replace the cable with a genuine part.. why not go the whole hog and buy BOTH cables... Laughing
