Shouldn't need to be particularly high-temp. Is liquid cooled. Any old gasket goo should work.

However, you shouldn't need it with a new gasket properly tightened down. Check it's not warped.

It should go on dry, you may find the gasket will already have sealant on it

Right update
Fitted the new gasket kit
Exhaust gasket
New plug
Plenty of compression there ... put a syringe full of fuel down the fuel line till it was full , fired 10 or so times , dident start , took plug out , wet, let it air . Few syringes more of fuel , fires but no go , however
With no air box on and no fuel tank ( being repaired) will it actually fire up and run ?
I no my rs refuses to run without an air box .
I also haven't put coolant in yet (wanted to get it running first )

Any input appreciated
Cheers

Right
I've slapped the tank on
Put 3 litres of fuel in it , air box on
Fresh filter
It takes forever to fire and when she does run it's only for 5 seconds maximum, then cuts out and won't restart .
It will only start on full throttle also and will bounce around the rev range a bit ....
Would say a fuel issue
The carb looks new and I've had it apart and cleaned it !

Thinking of trying more fuel in the tank for a bit more pressure .

What do you all think ?

Open the carb drain and observe the flow with the fuel tap open. It should be consistent flow. If it slows/stops could be your float valve is blocked/restricted.

Consistent blue spark from the plug?

This one has little white plastic reeds
Opend and sealed ok
Gave them a little spray with Carb cleaner when I removed them.
However it does sound like the float bowl isn't filling quickly enogh .

Just gone out to it
Opend the carb drain and it was running through constantly.
Turned it over (full throttle ). It started up (bit smokey ) revs were bouncing around for 4/5 seconds , cut out and won't re-start .
Ahhh

Crankcase air leak? Crank seal?

Revs bouncing around would suggest an air leak, everything else suggests fuelling issue, although the carb may be getting fuel the float height may not be adjusted properly and the carb might not be filling up with fuel properly. iirc the starter jet is the longest and sticks down the lowest so it may be the only one that is picking up fuel.

The bike should start and run without the air filter on, depending what NSR is they're a pain to wiggle on.

Without it running, very difficult.

Usually you see fluids the wrong side of the engine or can feel the gearbox pressurising when revving.

Also depends where it might have gone.

Get the carb slot on first, check fuel flow from the tank, if no joy we need to start looking at air leaks. Intake rubber, reed block it crankcase.

The air box is a nightmare
I'll guess I'll whip the carb off tommorow

Its not got any coolant in it at the moment to eliminate that .
I drained the gear oil out a few days ago and it seemed to be all there and not contained.
I think it is carb related although the carb looks pretty new , may of been untrasonic cleaned .
What do you mean by get carb slot on first?

Cheers again

Plug seems to be getting wet
Tired that before dident work it seemed a bit of fuel dripped out the front of the carb when my hand was removed.
It does occasionally stink of fuel , thats usaly when it fires up , chucks a load of smoke out and dies .

Cheers

One of the reeds on the block (middle one out
Of 1 side of the bank) wasnt sealing 100% , so I've flipped them over . Seem a bit better, But can't see this being the cause ?
I've also just looked at the price of starter motors
There like £100 plus !
