Hello,

I'm looking to do a little ride out to Northern France/Belgum next month. Just an over nighter on my own. Any decent roads or routes to try? I know its a long way just for a 2 dayer but should be fun non the less. Gives me a chance to really stretch the bikes legs.

Cheers.

Although very touristy, Bruges or Ghent are nice place to visit and not too far.

Cheers doggone. Just been looking at another post where they ended up in Ghent. Could be worth a ride over.

It depends what sort of roads you enjoy riding, but if you want superb, fun, turn around and do it again twisty roads, open google maps and look at the green blobs by Calais, and along the Belgian border. Plan a route to take in plenty of these. Then, when you're done playing there, point the bike in the direction of the green blob in eastern Belgium, near a little place called Spa, and go and have a play there.

I recently got back from a few days in the north and I can honestly say that the ride from Namur to Cologne via Spa was 170 of the most entertaining miles I've ever ridden.

Cheers Monkeypony. I've driven in and around Spa a few years ago when I had my Clio Sport. Some cracking roads and scenery. Spa itself is lovely as well. Ill crack google maps open now.

Ghent's a lovely town, and an easy day's ride from Surrey (not sure where you are).
The roads in that part of Belgium aren't exactly thrilling though, you need to get South East of Brussels for that, near Spa. The mountain roads around Spa were some of the highlights from my trip.

I thought the OP wanted a mini trip to France, Le Touquet is well worth a visit.

Jura mountains over by the swiss border are nice. also few places on lake geneva right next to it. it's a bit further afield but worth it... travel across through champagne region for niceness..

also via champagne can head to Bonn/Koblenz.. and down the Rhine river. road snakes along at the waterside. (if have time... also continue south to black forest for nice roads, excellent cake).

Jura mountains - 450 odd miles and near enough seven and a half hours on toll roads just to get there. Thinking

yes you'll want a long weekend rather than a one nighter ideally. but it's a look for another day. (though it can be done in one go if you have a comfortable bike and/or just feel like it
