Would this not be something that people would need to know the area? just many removals firms are locally run rather than big national type outfits.

Better off asking your local Facebook group for recommendations if staying local.

Just hire a van and do it yourself?

Is what I've always done. Roped in a couple of mates to give me a lift with the heavier stuff.

i think the wife wants to get it done properly so we can deal with all the other stuff on the day.

the wife and i are very different in the way we deal with things.
She works in a school with special needs children, so is very gentle, slow, feelings.
i work in IT and don't have no time for any of that stuff.

So when ever we work together we both have to take a deep breath and be accommodating.

i just don't think we will have the patience on the day, hence get some men in to deal with it.

i did find several recommendations on Mums net for removal company's in my area and have contacted a few.

Cheers
C.

Just had the first quote in.

SW16 to Me10.
no more than a large Luton vans worth of stuff.

£2500

that's with us packing everything up and dismantling any large items.

fuck me....

Edit:
2nd quote came in at £750 which is far more reasonable.
Not sure where the first company were coming from.

Bet the second one keeps their prices down by using a transit, and simply crushing your belongings until they fit.

I would recommend my families company, but being Bournemouth based you're probably better off with a someone local. Hit me up with any questions though.

Shameless plug Laughing https://parkandsons.co.uk/

I'd get a couple of quotes and make your selection based on reviews and the impression you get from the guy doing the quote. Cheapest will be cheap for a reason.

Rent a Luton van, load most of the stuff up the day before and any particularly valuable stuff on the day you're moving. Return the van the following day and then be happy about how much money you've saved compared to the £2,500 company and be happy about how much stuff you've saved from being broken by the £750 company.

Word of warning: don't be surprised if the van fills up faster than expected and you run out of space. This can be avoided by using Tetris skills for packing the van and being aware of what stuff can fit in the back of car(s).

I could not recommend Britannia, the were contracted by my insurers to clear the white goods from my kitchen whilst repairs were being carried out.

On collection they damaged the door threshold.

On the return of goods they were late with out any contacts, the damaged the door threshold again (this had been repaired by the builders and is a standard double glazed door) the damaged the cooker which had to be replaced.
