Yesterday, or rather very early this morning, I made a thread about my CPU behaving suspiciously. I solved that, it was malware, so I removed the thread. But now I've got a completely new issue, the explorer.exe doesn't run on start up of the OS.

I googled around, trying to find some answers, but nothing was helpful.

Help me mighty BCF, you're my only hope.

Found the bugger, we used to disable exporer from opening up on startup when i worked at my old job setting up tills for cash & carrys.

Open up regedit, file & save it somewhere in case you fuck up.

go to HK local machine - > Software -> Mircosoft -> windows NT -> current version -> winlogon.

check that the shell REG_SZ is set to explorer.exe

I already did (google suggested this), the Shell is set to explorer.exe and that is my problem here.

try sticking a shortcut to explorer.exe in the startup folder?

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

So, I performed the sfc /scannow and it says everything is alright.

I can start explorer.exe manually from the task manager.

The startup repair is not an option at the moment (no DVD drive).

(Although I've had terrible luck with it lately).

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I know this sounds stupid, but I don't have a usable flash drive either. Laughing

The PC works, so I'm gonna leave it as is for today and gonna borrow a DVD drive tomorrow and hook it up.

Is most certainly not! Razz

I never really needed it, even in the XP and Vista days. I ran Vista for 6 years, one single instalation. W98 and W95 were quite a different story and I even memoriased the Licence key for those, although my memory is vague now. It's been quite a few years.

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 6 years, 177 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
