About 2 years ago A friend of my dad asked if he could store his old bike in his garage. This old Triumph appeared and he's never reappeared. I'm curious, is it a bike of interest and worth restoring? Or is it fit only for the skip?

Thanks!

Yes it's worth restoring. It looks awesome. Do it! Do it NOW!

I can't remember off the top of my head who it was, but someone here did a cracking job of restoring their dad's old bike.

Just do it.

You probably want to see if you can find the bloke before you go pouring money into it... it would really suck if he turned up in 6 months demanding his bike back

Worth restoring as in it's a nice bike, quite desirable and a shame to let it rot away? Yes. If you aren't up for it, plenty of enthusiasts would want it and make it their hobby.

Worth restoring as in get it done then sell it and retire on the profits? Nah. You'd be lucky to break even.

Was your dads friend getting divorced and hiding his treasures like a giant demented squirrel?

To be clear, I have neither the skills nor funds to do this I just hate to see things die in a garage.

Thing is, about 30 years ago the bike was in a worse state and my dad and he fixed it up. It was beautiful. It was then ridden twice and then left to get to this state again. I don't think he keeps well. Hence it's low mileage.

I definitely think it's only worth it to someone who would cherish and keep the bike.

They are not particularly rare but people are asking stupid money for those T140s now.

Registered as blue, looks black in the pics?

I suppose it's really a TR7 Tiger, with that single carb head.

It's looks to be in reasonably good order for a bike that has been living in various sheds.
If you buy any of the classic bike magazines, you will see that there is almost nothing you can't get for almost any Triumph bike.
So DOOOO IIIIT!

Secondly, if you put that in the Skip, I'll personally come round to your house and bite you on the ankles Evil or Very Mad Laughing

If for whatever reason you don't want it, I do, and would be happy to pay a fair price. Genuine offer.

Naa, only place for that is a skip. Tell you what, as a fellow BCF'er. I will do you a favour and organise a skip and collection for you free of charge.

Thumbs Up

The exhausts may end up in a skip.

The rest needs a clean.

NO. Absolutely not. Don't even think about "restoring" it. You'll sink more money into it than it will ever be worth. Just no, no and no. Restored bikes are for museums and pedantic halfwits with OCD.

HOWEVER...

Make it run and tidy it up and either use it yourself or sell it to someone who will. A restored bike in my opinion is a eyesore, a fashion statement and some kind of disease old whiskery men get. But a bike that is used regularly as a bike is a BIKE regardless of what it looks like.
