So I had to replace the inlet manifold on the bike (suzuki GN125) as the old one had a tear in the side and my diagnosis was that this was letting too much air in and causing poor running.

What I wanted to do was remove the whole carb and screw the inlet manifold on before putting the carb back on. But I couldnt figure out how to get the carb off.

So I took the front manifold off (was very hard to get at the screws) pushed the carb back and squeezed in the replacement manifold.

But it doesn't look like the o ring is sitting flush in the groove. It seems to be in the groove just not flush and is creating a gap.

the o ring I took out seemed to have been flattened into the groove. the new one wasn't even fitting in right out of the box, it seemed slightly too small.

here are some pics, what do you all think.

This makes me want to cry. I'm not going to be able to get around taking this carb off.

Why are you crying, it's a single cylinder with a single carburettor.

Undo that single screw on the jubilee clip on the rubber, and pull it out the rubber.

Leave the rest of the stuff attached to the carb, and just have it hanging.

Unbolt that messed up rubber, and either reattach it so it's not crooked, or replace it if knackered.

put carb on and tighten jubilee clamp.

It's literally 1 bolt to take it off.

Ok. If it's not sitting right it's not sitting right.

I'll buy a new o ring (I used the one that came with the new manifold but it never did fit in, even when trying to shove it in on the kitchen table).

Gonna try again tomorrow.

Looks like it's on upside down to me!
There's definitely something wrong, it shouldn't be deformed like that!

Take it all off, fit the new manifold to the engine, on its own.
Fit the carb to the manifold.
If you're having trouble getting the carb to slide into the inlet and the air box manifold, smear a thin layer of vaseline inside the air box rubber and the inlet rubber, should make things a bit easier!

^^^ Agree with something very wrong^^^

You want a new manifold rubber, new o ring and new bolts. Use hex head bolts you and undo and do up from the side.

Make sure everything goes together easily and correctly before tightening up. Thumbs Up

Yeah it's dawning on me now. I couldn't figure out which way it was meant to go on so I reasoned that if there was no indication and it fit on both ways it didn't really matter. But there was a small protruding dot on one top of it and I reckon now that that is causing the small gap.

Cheers lad. Going to try again.

Done and done.

Bought a new o ring. It fits perfectly.

I accidentally let the carb fall sideways and a fair amount of fuel spilled out of it (I'm guessing from a float bowl). Don't know if that's an issue.

It runs anyway.

Bit late to reply but looking at the pics your carb and rubber are not a matching pair. There's no way that the clamp should pull up touching like that nor should it inch the rubber down so much that it deforms it away from the bolted-up face. One of those two parts doesn't belong, or there's a shim missing.

New album. https://imgur.com/a/Um2eg

There's still a slight gap but I hope that will go down as the o ring is smushed into the groove.

The neighbours must think I'm mad, out in the cul de sac taking photos of the bike in the dark.

The clamp on air filter to carb side doesn't have the ends touching.

But the bike has only he the one owner before me and I know for a fact that he hasn't swapped anything out.

Heres a few new pics. I put it on upside down before. How's it looking too you now. https://imgur.com/a/Um2eg

I mean the clamp on the other side of the carb doesn't have the metal ends touching.

The clamp on the front (the one in the picture, the one around the rubber that I've just changed) does have the ends touching but it's still very very tight. And it is stock so idk. the bike ran fine this morning.

What do you mean by foxed?

There's a few little scratches from the screwdriver slipping but it's brand new from wemoto.
