no real way of fitting a ground anchor into the garage and I would like some extra security in it

so had the idea of a large chain coming from the rafters in the garage and locking that through the bike

only place I can find chain round here is Homebase and for a decent thickness it will cost aprox £130

need about three metres

any ideas bcf Laughing

Look for lifting chains, any big depot that has cranes likely has old chain you can buy. Grab a sleeve for it.

Yeah, any lifting equipment hire place will have offcuts and lengths of worn chain kicking about.

See if you can get some grade 80 or 100 load chain.

I have some 16mm grade 80 and it has marks on it where it's been attacked by bolt croppers on at least 3 occasions. On one of them they nearly got all the way through one side of a link before giving up.

Should be noted that someone rocked up with a set of hydraulic shears one day, cut the chain and stole the bike.

Or ebay. Good chain isn't cheap.:

Grade 100, you'll not cut this easily.

I'd suggest: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360490186403

Because: 16mm= borderline hand croppable, and it'll be off the ground.

If they turn up with an angle grinder then anything better will buy you seconds more time, not minutes, based on this recent Bennett's test.

If they turn up with atomics hydraulics, then they're having it regardless.

I bought some marine lifting chain off of ebay to make a ground anchor, can't recall it costing much

edit: Found some

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13mm-grade-80-long-link-chain-4x4-mooring-boats-farms-lifting-fishing-trawling-/161189041555?var=&hash=item25879d9593:m:mqUJ1VqJ4sibVPDpRVuiclw

Though thicker the better, so perhaps go for the one above

I sunk some of the 13mm chain, with a piece of steel rebar threaded through the links into concrete, then ran it through to the inside of my shed. Obviously I haven't had a break in, but along with an Almax chain and Sqiure lock, it's certainly better than without it.

Ended up with a lifting cable

20mm thick lifts ten tonne apparently

Locked with a squire lock I had round the roof beams

And my abus cable local through the wheels
Not unstealable but will take a while
If they know its in that particular garage to start with
