Rather than start a new thread as it's related, where can you get rid of tyres? I have a wheel from some car I owned in my garage and neither the local tip or the bin men will take it.

Only a few weeks until November 5th.. Shocked

My tip take up to 4 tires at a time if they stopped I'd put them in bin bags and drop them off anyway. Laughing

Thanks for advice all.

The alloy refurb place can take them off the tyre, but they charge the "going rate" of £40 to remove the old tyres.

As they were getting refurbed anyway I took them off using tyre levers. I agree with everyone that it's harder than a bike tyre but probably not as hard as many of you make out. They're just standard run-of-the-mil 17" tyres from a Accord, not some super sporty low profile affair.

My tip wouldn't take them so I sold them for £10 on ebay, collected and sorted with beer money!

Tyres depend on a lot of factors - for instance the old caravan tyres I removed were really easy to take off, while putting on new higher-load-rated commercial tyres was noticeably harder, despite being the same size.

That or freecycle are the easiest ways to get rid of almost anything. Laughing

Old Thread Alert!
