Have you used decent muffs?

The Oxford ones are terrible.

They are 'ok' put on over hand guards - I used mine off-roading where I wanted to be able to withdraw and continue quickly for emergencies.

Way past the wrist, but not as far as the elbow.

They work well when wet.
Get your arm in beyond the jacket/glove interface and you don't get leakage there, better than having your arm in the air. Any dampness in the fur goes against your jacket anyway, so no problem.

Not noticed any unusual smells from mine either.

If you want grips then I suggest R+G grips from M+P.

These grips will accommodate bar end weights, variable heat control and
best of all you can buy SPARE PARTS.. R+G sell the loom, switch and
grips individually.

AT the moment I'm using Gear Gremlin grip's, they came with a bike I
bought a few years ago and they have lasted 2 winters, I had to buy a
complete kit because the throttle grip broke with wear and tear but that
wasn't a waste of money because earlier this year the switch packed up.
So I recently replaced the switch and when the throttle grip packs up
again I will simply use the R+G grip I bought.

Don't bother with Oxford, too expensive

Heated grips but a good make I had cheap and were shit got Oxford ones fitted and were very happy. When I had heated gloves the cables annoyed me running through the jacket, mine could be powered either from the bike battery or 2 rechargeable battery packs in the pocket

Just adding my two penn'orth here, as I fitted my first-ever pair of heated grips at the weekend, and used them for the first time on a long-ish ride today.

These were Oxford Premiums (on offer at £46) and so far, I reckon they are utterly brilliant - just clicked the switch when my mitts started to feel chilly, and Bob was my Uncle. Back in the day, during my first incarnation as a biker during the early eighties, I had some electric gloves (which was considered a bit weird back then, let me tell you!) and although they were effective, I did find all the cabling a right pain in the arse; and of course you had to decide before you left home whether it was going to be worth all the faff of putting them on.

So far, there's no contest - but I suppose the proof of the pudding will be whether I'm still saying that by next March!

Well as per every comment ever on the subject of heated grips - today’s journey in 2 degrees - they performed exactly as expected...

Warm and toasty palms, freezing cold outer hands. 😂

But it’s better than nothing and I still prefer them to muffs!

All I'm hearing as a negative for heated gloves is about wires...wires...wires....being plugged in etc.

I have both heated grips and heated gloves - but the gloves are battery operated. They are good quality, no faff (other than charging the packs up once a week - bare in mind my commute is just 40 mins total a day)

I use heated grips most of the winter untill it get down close to zero when I also use the gloves...the gloves are a bit bulky compared to summer gloves, but they keep the backs of my hands warm when the grips alone wouldn't.

The gloves are IXS X-7...not cheap at just over £200...but I did a lot of research into battery heated gloves as I specifically didn't want to be wired into the bike. Couldn't be happier with them.

Handguards. Seem to do the trick for me so far, if you don't want to go down the muff route and have that option.

The £9.50 muffs went on today. I had to turn the £2.16 heated grip pads off after a few miles, my hands were way too hot in my £9.99 summer gloves.

Sorry, we were saying something funny?

Not really a person I would take advice from over being warm.

I'm doing this politely but considering you suffer from Reynauds and yet refuse to use any heated item from Grips to jackets to gloves or use proper warm waterproof textiles prefering to try and buy waxed cotton, a technology that has been surpassed decades ago you aren't really someone who's advice should be listened to on staying warm.

I still remember the pictures you shared of your purple hands after a brief ride in the cold.

Muffs and grips are the way to go, one keeps the rain and wind chill off and the other gives warmth, the best of both worlds.
Gloves can be good but without muffs you still lose heat to air flow.
Some people prefer hand guards but these are people who have either never used muffs or had badly fitted ones.

This is me. Thats why I removed them.

If it starts getting unbearable in December i'll consider some better ones.

Thumbs Up

Well, now that we've had a few decent parky mornings I'll pipe up on this one. I've used heated grips and brush guard style muffs (hated full muffs, not for me) for years to good effect. However, I always found that the wind would nip through and my fingertips ended up in agony eventually. Bearable, but not fun.

This year I said fuck it and invested in a pair of Gerbing XR 7V battery powered gloves while they were going cheap during the summer.

The short and sweet? Heated gloves beat everything else hands down, perfectly comfortable not bulky as fuck (even with the lithium battery in the cuff) and the heating elements go right round the fingertips so completely negates wind-nip.

Plus I can use them on the other bikes too, happy days.

I'm a convert, wouldn't go back now.

I use heated gloves and cheapo muffs, as I have too many bikes, and keep changing them, and can't afford grips on all of them.

But £199.99!!!!!!

I'll stick with my current plan which consists of:

is it cold, but not TOO cold - heated grips.
Is it arctic black finger cold - work from home.

The best heated grips I ever came across were fitted to a snowmobile, I had to switch them off at one point as i swear they were literally cooking my hands in minus 15 degree temps in Finland.
Dont seem to be able to find them compatible for motorbikes as the snowmobiles seem to be predominantly controlled by a thumb throttle and not a twist grip Sad

Yeah, #Brexit has really hit hard, they're up to £2.59 a bike now. Pale

It's a strip of resistor, some wires, a switch and some heat shrink. There's really no need to over-think this, or pay over the odds.

Aren't there any 'UK Sellers' of these? Makes them even cheaper Wink

And what were your £9.16 muffs?

I would have said heated gloves as well, but its a bit of a faff with wires.

The issue I have with grips is that my fingers still get very cold and my palms are very hot.

However given the price of the heating elements and muffs, I would be inclined to try that first before investing in some very expensive gloves.

Dunno, that's the cheapest I could see. I planned ahead and bought them in summer (a few years back).

£9.50. I've paid less, but you get what you pay for. Folded arms

£9.59 now from Cathay, thanks, Obama.

Heated gloves for me, with handguards.

Heated grips just seemed to heat my palms, leaving my fingers feeling even colder. But I've probably got poor circulation.

Expensive? Try genuine Triumph ones. £140 and only 2 heat settings the last time I bought them. However it does tell me on my dashboard if they are on incase I haven't notices the heat coming off them Laughing
