I've just been sent some free codes for some audiobooks (provided I review them later) by a guy called Shaun Attwood, one of my facebook brothers from another mother type of people I've yet to meet - something about the Cali Cartel, Escobar, being in prison, etc etc

But I'm still ploughing through A Confederacy of Dunces, at the rate of about 1&1/2 pages at a time before I fall asleep most nights. Its not that its boring, in fact its funnier than I was going to give it credit for. But I just get exhausted and fall asleep with the book on my nose.

Same. Was wondering what was going on until my memory started coming back from the first book.

This Is Why I Drink my David Cross.

Fairly funny book, with stream of consciousness rants, comedic observations and wit.

Just finished:

The Elephant In The Room: A Journey Into The Trump Campaign and The Alt Right by Jon Ronson

A bit of a look at the circus around Trump in the run up to last years elections. Not bad, but a bit lightweight.

Desmond Doss: Conscientious Objector by Frances Doss

Absolutely loved the film (Hacksaw Ridge), but the book wasn't good. A bit religious/preachy and the good stuff - the stories - were delivered in a Forrest Gump style. Interesting story let down by the writing style.

Need You Dead by Peter James

Ongoing series about a Police Inspector in Brighton. Good set of books and worth a read.

No Middle Name: The complete Collected Jack reacher

A load of short stories. Usually from the ebook versions (as extras). A few new ones. Not bad but banged it out in a few hours.

The Punch Escrow

It's the year 2147. Advancements in nanotechnology have enabled us to control aging. We've genetically engineered mosquitoes to feast on carbon fumes instead of blood, ending air pollution.

Made a note of that one - sounds interesting.

I felt like going old school and started reading Immediate Action by Andy McNab again. Best book he's written in my opinion.

Yes it's cheesy and he's had the pi$$ taken out of him endlessly but it entertains me.

The Three body problem by Cixin Liu

It is a trilogy, all books are out now, very well done Sci-Fi in a not so distant future. On the second book now and really enjoying it. Seems there will be a movie about it too.

Ender's Game saga. The film seems to have glossed over a lot of important parts from my memory.

It all seemed a bit scrappy at the end, thus 6/10

Loving this right now though.

Astrophysicist Reggie Straifer has an idea. He’s discovered an anomalous star that appears to defy the laws of physics, and proposes the creation of a deep-space mission to find out whether the star is a weird natural phenomenon, or something manufactured.

Currently reading the memoirs of the explorations of Sir Francis Younghusband (b1863-d1942).
Amazing how they did things in those days (late 19th c). For example, he crossed the Karakoram with nothing but a few ropes and a couple of pick axes, and zero mountaineering experience, not even a tent to sleep in.
Imagine telling someone today you were about to attempt such a thing: "can I have your bike?" Laughing

Follows on from one I just read about the Great Game played between Britain and Russia for high stakes in central Asia and India. A fascinating time.
