I love my pr4's but it has to be said their worst feature is cold temperature grip. Wet grip is fantastic but watch out if it gets down near freezing.

First time in 12 years.

Bought a car a few weeks back as getting a little tiresome getting cold and wet on the daily commute.

i put up with the sub zero temps, sleet and snow, hidden ice and general misery last year. Riding probably did save a fair few hours of my life stuck in traffic BUT i cannot claim all of them as getting dressed for the bike in winter is a right faff. Too many layers

That said, i'm still going to battle through it this year. It 100% made me a better rider....

still, if it snows, i'm going to take the other halfs mx-5 rather than the bike. A bike going down can get very expensive to repair which is something i don't need right now

ACF on the main commuter is a must though.

A MX5 in the snow sounds like great fun to be fair, especially if it's got a Lsd under it. If you can put up with hairdresser jibes they're a fun little go kart.

Definitely not laying the bike up for winter. Didn't the last two. However, I only take it out in winter when there is NO snow and/or NO ice.

Chicken? Of course. Comes from my times as a courier years ago on my Reveres - on black ice a few times for the entire journey to LHR from Oxford. Not so bad once I had my QD sidecar chassis.

Im not laying anything up, as I've currently got nothing in my possession that's rideable, nor have I since early August.

I did get about 80miles in on my KMX 125 when it was here and before&after it was MOT'd.

I agree with Blue, in that I'd not deliberately wrap up/winterise a bike until the end of November, as you just can't predict the UK weather. Generally and historically speaking the coldest and worst weather is normally after December, so it's a safe bet that any bike I want to keep away from road salt or snow/ice won't see much use between January- March.

If I end up with two or more road legal insured bikes/scooters next year I'd like to get into the 1000mile+ range for my annual mileage. Its many years since I did that sort of mileage on bikes though.

Its what happens I guess when all your vehicles are projects, or being fettled, tinkered with and especially when your waiting for parts and or specialist services too.

Please keep the racism to a minimum.

Over this side of the Pennines in the (lower) north east there seems to be quite a lot of relatively mild winter days when the roads are pretty dry. True, hands and feet can often start to feel it after a couple of hours - but there's still some enjoyable riding to be had. Last winter I seem to remember only scraping ice off the car windows a handful of times, so there wasn't much salt chucked on the streets. But, even if there was, so long as you go out when it's dry, I honestly don't think a half-decent bike will suffer for it so long as it gets some oily rag TLC and a bit of spraying with gt85/WD etc.

My old E30 was epic in the snow, winter tyres and a limited slip differential ment i could drive almost normally, or hang the arse out depending on the throttle.

CBR is getting laid up for the winter, mainly because it needs money spending on it and I'm skint, partially because I don't want to repeat the enforced lay up last winter when I binned it on something slippy and broke myself.

CG125 1 has been laid up since last Autumn and will continue to enjoy its slumber at my sisters place until I finish uni

CG125 2 (recent aquisition) will be on the road very soon indeed and will be ragged through Greater London all winter

Surprised by this as I really found confidence in them at autumn through to spring. Only time I wasn't as happy was when very hot in summer.

Rode my SV with rigid Hayabusa shock in the snow on PR4's.......was probably lucky it panned out though Smile

Last major snowfall I remember in London was 2012 and I started riding early 2013 Smile 6am starts have lost their appeal, it's normally not too bad once the sun's up.

I've had no issues before, either that or I will use the triple with 2cts or xt660 with either 2cts

What would you recommend for cold ?
