Started watching Stranger Things. The first episode is very good, and Winona Ryder is still fit.

I found it hard to take her seriously as a mother, given that she still looks about 14.

Season 1, eps 1 and 2. I did laugh a bit at the Inception / Freddy Krueger thing, but other than that I struggled to enjoy it. Other people in the office have recommended persevering for a few more episodes, so I might have a look this weekend.

I like the first two seasons a lot, but this third one - a very long time coming - has been hit and miss at best. Not sure it's worth persevering with if it's doing nowt for yer though - personally I think you get it straight off the bat and enjoy it because you get what it's doing, or you get what it's doing but it does nowt for you.

For me, it takes me back to a long, long time ago - when I first started reading the comic 2000AD, in infants school, back in the late 1970s. I was a regular reader into the '80s - and a lot of the humour and future-based social satire was way ahead of its time. But even then I looked forward to a time when instead of being paper-based this kind of thing would be in proper cartoon form - with real adult content, loads of gratuitous swearing and violence, hateful characters, bonkers sci-fi stupidity and a lysergic edge prevalent. It took a very, very long time to get here - but when it did, I recognised it immediately and loved it there and then.

Mr. Robot series 3 seems to be more like the original one, rather than whatever series 2 was Smile

Haven't watched it properly, because there's hardly any of it on youtube - but when I've seen clip compilations, yeah. Haven't got a fucking clue tbh.

One animated series I have been into recently though is F is for Family. Kind of an adult Simpsons. Bill Burr. Almost actually moving in places. Lots of laughs too.

I'm giving Preacher season 2 a try.

Titular character: ✔
Oirish vampire: ✔
Premise: ✔
Score: ✔
Cinematography: ✔

Writing: ~

Tulip: ✘

I do not like Tulip's character and I do not like Ruth Negga's acting. She's almost great, but it's just a little too studied, too watch-me-do-that-looking-down-thing-again-and-win-an-Emmy, and keeps snapping me out of the scenes.

Pity, as I could really like the rest of it.

Watched the first series. Actually thought it started well then went a bit meh, which's the opposite to what people say about it. An explanation... err... it's misanthropy mixed with animal based humour in a mix which never seems to go beyond being mildly amusing, apart from the first two or so episodes which I thought were really good (watched them again with a mate).

Also finished Snowfall. So the narrative annoyed me a bit, the whole they make us kill each other/deal drugs etc., and I'm not a fan of glamorising drugs with barely a mention of the consequences for the end user. However I kept watching and really got into it towards the end. There's going to be a second series.

It's our national sport.

I take it that they sink a lot of time into Tulip's (apparently) completely irrelevant side-plot?

I mean, you could dump her entirely, and what would the story lose?

"I Know Who You Are"

Even as the cameras rolled I knew it was going to be in Spanish with subtitles.
I even said out loud to this week's dog "If this is subtitled we ain't watching it"

But no. I had to go and watch S1E1 almost to the end.
Hooked almost from 5 minutes in.

Now I've got to bloody binge it cos the dog-parents are back on Thursday.

Beware, in the final season they just cut it dead. There's no closure.

I understand where you are coming from, but I disagree. I loved the comics (read them through about 4 time in all, including all the backstories etc) and initially I was let down that Tulip was so different to the comics, but I think Negga brings the same qualities in a different package.

I thought season two was a step up against season one. Better location, and the Hell storyline was quite funny and dark in equal measure. The story of Eugenes worst day (and the follow up during the escape attempt) was a highlight, I thought.

Looking forwards to Season 3.

Finished. The ending didn't feel as rushed with the second series being a couple of episodes longer. It's good, although a fairly similar format to the first series.

Because my attempts to get Stranger Things from "alternative sources" is dying a really really really slow death, I've signed up for (another) 30 days free trial. Ep 1 so far (20 mins in) is good Smile

Same. Waited like 2 days for season 2 to appear on Kodi/Exodus before running out of patience and taking out a trial. I'm guessing you can do as many as you like as long as it's a different card/email address?

Do Netflix even want a payment method for the trial period? I recall running "netflix_02_2015@mydomain.com" and similar for a few months before I reckoned my time was worth more than their fee.

Had to enter one this time (can't remember if I had to before). I assume like most companies they rely on people forgetting to cancel.
