Really, we're discussing this over in the Hug Trees thread.

The amount of my posts in that thread represent the amount of fucks I give about all that eco nonsense.
The title alone was enough for me to keep scrolling.

Having just had an email from TFL about the ULEZ coming in on 8th April 2019, I note that the ULEZ checker has been updated.

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez

Interestingly (for me) I'd heard that the Pan 1300 was Euro 3 (edited from IV - got that wrong) compliant from introduction in 2002, but couldn't find any documentation that stated it. The ULEZ checker correctly identifies my 1997 Bandit as being subject to ULEZ (whilst the T-Charge checker correctly identifies it as being exempt from T-Charge)

Quote:
Red SUZUKI GSF 600 SX
You are subject to the ULEZ.

From 8 April 2019 if you travel in the ULEZ you will need to pay the daily ULEZ charge. This is because your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ standards*.

so I know the checker is at least vaguely working, and my A-4 (2004 build, 55 plate) Pan 1300 is not subject to it

You are not subject to the ULEZ.

You do not need to take any action. However, other charges may apply.

Other charges
You may still be subject to the Congestion Charge

Dance!

Could be worth checking other bikes before automatically assuming they must be changed.

Really? You mean they're not just using a arbitrary date? I am genuinely flabbergasted.

Edit: I think it's slightly broken for bikes. Checked a few bikes that aren't (AFAIK) euro 3 and aren't subject to ULEZ according to that checker. DTs, XRs etc.

Edit 2: checked a 2002 Hornet that was liable, and a 2003 Hornet that isn't. Have they set the checker to Euro 2?

No one tell them if that's the de facto list Shhh!

Just put the tdm (4tx) in - also says it's exempt, although I thought it wasn't going to be...

Screenshot taken for the appeal, cheers!

The rac have a full list of all the standards and their dates...

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/know-how/euro-emissions-standards/

Strikes me that the ulez tool calculates the euro3 window based on that used for cars, however a motorbikes euro3 implementation was later (2007). Or it hasnt been designed to recognise a motorbike registration from a car.

Explains why mine is showing ok - Euro 3 standard for cars was implemented in 2001, and mines on a 2002 plate because import.

Time will tell if the charging system has been set up on the same misunderstanding..

When was it registered? I checked a T plate bike that was registered in 2007 Confused

Just checked a few more Hornets, an '03 plate is subject to ULEZ and a 53 plate isn't, so that seems to be the cutoff point.

That doesn't appear to match up with anything so f**k knows what they're doing.

That'll be why then, AFAIK it goes by registration date, which even when you apply it properly means a number of non-compliant bikes squeak through. You often see TDR 125s imported/on a later plate.
