I wasn't impressed when those leaked shots surfaced a few months back and looking at the plain red model again, it still doesn't look as amazing as the 1199 and 1299 panigale.

https://www.visordown.com/sites/default/files/field/image/2018-ducati-panigale-v4.jpg

However, I saw this:-

https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/23168003_1989782261244029_3675258324758804568_n.jpg?oh=cbdc89cd39988279ba16a464f898e0f7&oe=5AA4B6EA

And I like the way the white vinyl takes the focus off the way they decided to do the side fairing merging in to the tank.

Although these photos are of the "speciale" edition, which is £35k (226bhp), getting the base model, which is £19k (214bhp), done in a similar vinyl is cheap.

https://www.bikesportnews.com/uploads/news_images/Panigale-V4-Special-Red-MY18-01-Book-testride-630x390.png

I really, really like that! I need to see one in the flesh and hear it too but with an aftermarket can and no baffles, these things should sound insane (maybe as good as my rsv4 rf Razz ).

It looks OK but I'm not overly sold - and yes, it looks better with the white to break it up; that side fairing to tank looks a little odd.

It seems to have dropped off for most of the promo pics. Who do they think they are, Royal Enfield?

Not a fan, it's too japanese looking. Not flowing lines and the body looking fat and the tail so thin is weird.

They peaked years ago...

Only one I really REALLY want is a 999.

That will wait until I have moved and have a spare room indoors for bikes.

Give me the V4 motor in a 916/998 chassis and bodywork. I'm also going to need the back, knees and wrists I had 20 years ago to ride it.

The 916/998 are arguably the best looking fully faired Italian bikes ever. The argument being the MV Agusta F4.

The best looking 'Italian' sports bike is this......

https://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.9IjNKXPleM8-qHJX25DbCgEsD7&w=218&h=182&c=7&qlt=90&o=4&pid=1.7

However real world bikes I would choose an MV F4 over any Ducati based on beauty.

Wub Though I suspect I would be in absolute agony after 15 minutes in the saddle of that!

Benelli? Ugh... Wink
Not so bad in the flesh, but that pic does it no justice.

This (and the F4, followed by the Brutale for sheer OTT stereotyping of Italian design), is the best looking Italian...

I don't think the new V4 is hopelessly ugly or even as boring and nothing amazing to look at like say a current Blade or GSXR thou.

OP it looks good enough for a new bike IMHO. What new bikes in this day and age are ever drop dead knicker snapping gorgeous anyway?

Remember these new bikes, have to have some ugly bits just to meet legislation so long number plate hangers, or huggers and big dustbin exhausts full of quiet and catalytic converters are how it must be, as is complex dash units and switches swimming in electronics etc.

Is a new Golf Gti stunningly good looking for a hot hatchback? No not really, but within the constraints of today's vehicle design and features, it's still good enough to grab plenty of sales.

Its the same with bikes on sale today. Oh and remember that bikers like much more diverse and specific detailed things that car owners ever will. One blokes Aerodynamic Hayabusa will be nothing to a bloke with a Spondon framed Street fighter.

Oh and the most important thing of all is look at the price. This bike is a showing off toy, with more power than the roads can use, and thus it will sell well enough however it looks to those that must have a very showey off shiny thing.

I miss the trellis 'frame'. Crying or Very sad It still looks a cracking bike as is the 999 which is improving as times passes.

How is it? At £19k, it's not exactly only for multi millionaires. Chuck a few bags down on deposit and finance the rest. The RSV4 RF's are £20k. RM1's are £19k, so why is the Ducati just a show off bike?

As for more power than the roads can handle... sure but that's also just about EVERY sports bike over 400cc.

I had a 1299 for 2 years, it was fucking phenomenal on the road. I just didn't like the sound of it and wanted to try the RSV4 RF.

You ever ridden any of the 200bhp sports bikes? They are a lot of fun, on road or on track.

Sure it's not to be singled out as a show off toy only, anymore so than any other 20k bike. They are all the same thing though and bought by the same people 99% of the time.

You'd be hard pushed to find an owner of such a bike, who has one for their only transport, and as a minimum probably owns at least one other bike and a decent family car or even a performance car.

But yes I get that in absolute terms that to quite alot of people these days who are very successful in making a good living, that 20k isn't a huge sum to consider spending on a vehicle.
The thing is though that in bike terms it really is though! You don't need or even want to spend 20k to ensure you get lots of fun and enjoyment on two wheels.

Oh and if you bring finance or pcp into it, then many things are seemingly affordable to many, or at least they fall for believing it is anyway.

Oh and no, I've never ridden a 200bhp bike on the road. I've had a go on a 150&160bhp bike, but can't say I really rode it, more just had a bimble along for an hour just to see what I thought.

Im only 12stone and I'm not a track day bloke, so I really don't need 200bhp to haul me about and I don't need the speed or a huge reserve of excess of power that I can't deploy at well under 100mph.

No idea why you would want one as your only form of transport... There are a lot of people on the Ducati forum buying just to use on track, I’m sure there are even more people buying to use as an expensive ornament - each to their own.

If they re-tune the engine and stick it in a naked bike I’ll probably sell my left testicle.

I kinda like the look of them too (they're just missing a single sided swingearm IMO). The looks have grown on me since they were released - the 1098s and such like after it felt a bit Japanese to me, and bizarrely I don't find myself drooling over the Panigale's lines as much :/

For a lot of people it's just that - they could spend half that on a 200hp track bike and spend £10k riding it, for instance.

No; but I don't see why it'd be more fun than a 160hp bike, when I found that a lot more dull than a 100hp; on the road I find 30-80hp the most involving.
I only did one trackday this year for reasons, but if I start doing a few more again I would like to give a 200hp bike a proper go. But I suspect just doing some racing on what I've got would be a better bet.

Drooling Drooling Drooling Drooling

I know this is the speciale but fuck me, this could possibly be the best bike ever made. The Ducati looks of the panigale with a V4 engine is literally one of the perfect combinations.

Can't wait to see the production models and hear / ride one.

Already 95% made my mind up I'm having one Bounce!

That Akra sounds so good but I bet it costs 5K

Don't be silly.

It looks ok. I've not been a fan of the styling since the 1098 personally. I like the way Ducati are slowly inching back towards a beam frame with their road bikes again. It's a frame, but not a frame. Laughing

Personally I love the look and sound of the RSV4. It's not the best bike ever either. I'm a little too concerned about the stone like depreciation and spares back up. I know dealers are offering life time warranties, but I owned an Aprilia and know what the spares back up can be like. That and my GSXR with it's mere 160 odd BHP is good enough for now. If I want more power I'd be putting on a system and firing in some cams which I reckon should see about 180.

I feel I've degressed a little. It's a nice thing for sure. It just doesn't float my boat that much to be honest. Ducati as a brand also seems to be the two wheeled Ferrari. Depending on your point of view that could be a good thing.

It's too much, not pretty enough, can't see it being 'fun'. Sure, it'll be exhilarating, but when you've got the bill for the scrape on the carbon fairing after a low speed drop, it's advantages won't look so great IMO.

No wonder sportsbikes aren't in fashion any more and people are buying GS's.

That is what they want to be I think, however when you have a BMW and a Kawasaki with similar performance for about half the price, you realise they are really the bike world's answer to something like Maserati. Not the fastest, not the best but people will pay twice the price of a similar bike just to have an italian brand.
