Quick update on the race bike, and my hand.

Got a follow up X-ray this Monday. Fingers crossed it'll have healed up enough to, A: Get back to work, and B: Get back on the bike. Cool

The bike, I stripped down yesterday, ready to build all the parts onto the new frame and engine.

New and old Frames:

https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20376075_515254372158926_3683791823088702848_n.jpg?oh=bef7a75f4a240416111e882161472cc9&oe=59EE7447

A Saving of 0.5kg
Not world changing. But it's a stronger frame, so even if it weighed the same, it'd be an improvement.

https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20479780_515254398825590_7366415286616645096_n.jpg?oh=31fb73d2585f8aa4e22a1bea6202636f&oe=59FE1A31

Engine mounted into frame.
Carb is close to the frame, tank sits just on the carb cap.

With the steel frame, it was narrower, so I had the carb rotated slightly to the right.
But on this frame, it must sit bolt upright, and it's all a bit tight.

Forks, swing arm and tank fitted.
All looks rather clean. Mr. Green

I'll be getting a bit more done on Tuesday, as I've spoken to Alan at BMB, and because the open class is reasonably quiet, he's provisionally booked me on to race.
All being well, I might be able to have a gentle run at the weekend in the open class.

I simply need to finish, to score some points. It'll help keep me in 2nd place in the championship.

Quick update.

Hand is still broken, although the bone is starting to fix together.

Sunday 6th Aug - Round 7 at Whilton Mill.

Told the Mrs I was gonna drive up and watch.

Put the bike in the van, along with my gear. And kinda accidentally raced. Laughing

Didnt make the practice day (Saturday), But I know Whilton Mill better than every circuit so I can ride it at any time, without practice.

Initially, the bike felt slow as fuck.
After about 5 laps or so, I started to get the feel of the YX140.

It's kinda like when you go and do Arrive-and-drive Go-Karting, and the gokart has about 2bhp.
Key is keeping the momentum, as you dont have any power to speed up quickly if you over-brake, or slow too much for a corner.

Beauty of the 140, is you can welly it open fully mid-corner, and it wont spit you off or run wide.

The wrist held out okay, and only hurt under heavy braking.
Perfect on the 140, because the key is to brake as little as possible!

Qualified pretty slow, with a best lap time of 58.7secs

Race 1 started out pretty lousy, but by about lap 6, I really clicked with the new engine and frame, and started to press on.
Got a best lap time of 56.2 seconds.

Bearing in mind my best lap time last year on the Daytona 190 was a 57.4. So the power means bugger all in pit bike racing. Razz
It's ridability which wins races. Tyres and suspension.

I finished 2nd in race 1, and I came first in race 2, because the usual leader was disqualified. Laughing

Taking a first place overall. So pretty chuffed.

It's all gonna get a bit real next round though as I'll be riding in the 140 class too.

My lap times will be good enough to slip into the A-group, but I think I'll be running at around 17th place, (out of 26 bikes)

Then the B group run the other 20+ riders.

The stock classes are much more competitive.

I can't believe you got the alloy frame built up so quick! I'd be day dreaming about it for months first. Laughing

I'm glad to hear that the downsizing to the lower engine class is doing the job dude! It sounds like you had a really good weekend of close racing as well as an epic result too! Thumbs Up

I take it that's it's alot easier to push hard and ride the bike close to the limit with the 140 engine, compared to the savage nasty beast you had before. It sounds like alot more fun too being able to get more out of the bike and it not biting back.

I know what you mean about the pay&drive Karting events, I've had some totally epic battles driving the single engine Honda ones, are they about 4-5bhp? It's the never brake and lose all your speed needed for the corners by throwing it in and scrubbing off speed with power off understeer that's fun. That and when there's a decent straight and a real fatty in the kart in front. Laughing

I had a session on a tight outdoor track on one of the twin engine Honda karts, and it was so easy to spin out on slow corners, just gently driving out the bend.

I've never tried an Rotax max Kart or a 250 F1 kart, but that's a great thing to have on the try before you die list!

Hope the hand gets better soon too mate, and keep us posted when you get to try the Rotax pit out on a race weekend, as I think just seeing it in action will be pretty awesome tbh!

Rowrah - Round 8

What a weekend.
Set off at 9.30am on Thursday morning, and arrived in Cumbria at about 6pm.
Long old drive.

I took both bikes, And what a choice that was.

Saturday was mint, weather cleared up nicely and I had 10 good sessions (5 on each bike)
I was riding the 140 in the Stock-160 class, and riding the 2-stroker in the CRF150 (open Pit bike) Class.

The 140 Mini Pit was dialed in as always. Got lap times down to 58-seconds.
A real horse-power circuit, the CRF150s were doing 51s. The Front runners in the 140 and 160 classes were doing 54s.

The 2-stroke on the other hand.
Suspension was all over the shot, took a couple of sessions to get it sorted out and riding nicely.
Messed with the sprockets. Down-geared it to 15:39 sprockets, on the 12" wheels.
Probably still a touch tall for the hair pins as I was dropping it into 2nd gear, but bogging at times.
But on the faster corners, a bit of clutch slip and some big balls to keep it pinned, and it was off.

Absolutely smashed the stock CRF150s in a straight line.
Not quite enough oomph to stay with the factory bikes. Most of them were running 180/200cc bore kits etc.

No photos yet as the photographers have not uploaded much.
But I got some of the track and paddock.

The 2-stroke looks tek as fuck on slicks! Very Happy

Race day, it pissed it down all day (literally all day)

I rode the Mini Pit in both classes.

Qualified 15th in Stock 160 (out of 22 bikes)
Qualified 3rd (last) in Open class (Out of 3 bikes)

Nobody wanted to come to Rowrah cos of the distance. Usually there are 50+ bikes in the stock class!

Finished 12th in Stock class, and default 1st in open class because the other two riders had crashes which totaled the bikes. Laughing

Well, this weekend is Rnd-9, and it's being held at LLandow, in South Wales.

Unfortunately it's been moved from Fullbeck, and brought forward a week, so I'm unable to make it.

Not the end of the world though as I didn't enjoy the track at Llandow that much compared to the other circuits.

So rather than pay for the race entry this month, I decided to have a cartoon done of me on my bike instead. I will be having it printed on large vinyl to stick on the back of my caravan along with my race number. Cool

https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/21766518_542403052777391_7971328299403690694_n.jpg?oh=2197ae196c65dd7e7ee79fed7f629d42&oe=5A581D87

I will be attending Rnd-10 at Whilton Mill, with both of my bikes.
The Mini Pit is up for sale, and I've had a lot of interest in it. I've stipulated I want to do Rnd-10 on it before it sells.

Little bit of a shame considering the work that has gone into it, but I need to build a bigger bike for next year.
I come home from a race weekend, practically fucked for a week after, because I've spent 2 days racing a bike that is uncomfortably small. Laughing

I'm going to be building onto a KLX chassis again, so it'll be similar in size to the Rotax-Pit, but it'll be 140cc, and legal to race in the BMB for 2018.

Love the cartoon graphic dude!
Should look cool on your van too. The pics of both bikes together really highlight how small the Minipit bike is. Its a very nice and cool bit of kit though with that alloy frame and arm that's for sure!

Hope you get good dollar for it too. Already looking forward to seeing a 140cc KLX based race bike build thread! Smile

Oh and you said when you were racing the Rotax, it was handing the CRF 150's arse to them. I knew it would be quick with the right set up, and I bet none of the other bikes smelt anything like as good either! Laughing

Well. The mini pit is sold.
A Chap came to view it the other night, really liked it, and left me a deposit.
We came to a deal, where I can still race it Next weekend at Whilton Mill. But as of Sunday 29th, I'll be a bike down.

Round 10 - Whilton Mill.

Didn't race me usual class as half of the BSB paddock showed up on Sunday to race their CRF150s. Laughing
I wasn't willing to be victim of a double-lapping live on TV.
So I ran in the Stock 160 class.

Qualified P14 (out of 31) Had a mare with the carb. On hard right handers the bike was cutting out. Decided to have a risky attempt at adjusting the float after Quali for Race 1, ended up missing my call for the race, and going out with the A-Group (Fucking fast lads)

Started 31st on the grid, finished 28th, so wasn't so bad. Laughing

Race 2, started P14 on the grid (In the correct class this time), and finished P13.
But there was less than a second per-lap between the front 15 bikes. It's was tight as fuck racing. Razz

https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/22859904_556480881369608_6840831401434977247_o.jpg?oh=724e0fb8c260a159d2d743f113afd425&oe=5AAE3868

I could have pushed a bit harder, but the new owner of the Mini Pit arrived to watch the racing, and then took the bike away with him after my last race.

So I'm now bikeless. As the RS125 fucking blew up again. Laughing

https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/22861488_556664124684617_5140548782816517985_o.jpg?oh=92b4910d596500f88dac3933c933a0fc&oe=5AA26F95

But, I've got almost enough in parts to knock up a nice 2018 BMB supermoto for the stock class.
Will be building a mid-size KLX110 based bike, with a stocker 140 engine in it.

May document it, but the forum is shit and dead now, so may just end up leaving it to FB. Laughing

Front end underway:

Sounds like you had a good last ever race on the Minipit animal before the new owner took her away. Hope you got a good price for it too mate!

It's a shame to hear that your Rotax blew up again though, but not as much of a shame ad seeing all broken down into parts though. Sad

I suppose at times she's been a bit of a bitch engine wise at least. But it was one damn good looking bike and I hope there will be a new incarnation of it one day too! Thumbs Up

I flogged the engine and carb for £150.00
Frame got sold, bloke bought it for the V5 and VIN I think.

What is left will be most of the 2018 race bike.
It'll be built around the Stomp KZR frame, with my billet swing arm instead of the steel stomp swing arm (Providing it fits)
And of course, a race-legal engine. Looking at maybe a YX160 this time, or a Z155ho. Just as the 140 struggled with my 15+ stone on it up some of the hills this year.

Plastics and graphics will remain the same, as the Aprilia decals looked good. And they stand out from the ordinary.

I'll be running taller bars, instead of the TAG Fat-Bars I had on the smoker.
Only reason is because I was never comfey with the low bars.
I feel better and more at home on a bike with bars that are more stomach height, rather than waist height.
